The Coast Guard has been in Redding for over seventy years and the men and women who work with them have made a significant impact on the community. From providing security at local beaches to assisting with rescue operations, the Coast Guard has come to be know as one of the most important community partners in Redding. Today, there are numerous organizations that work together within the Coast Guard to provide support and assistance throughout the community. These groups include: The Redding Police Department; United Way of Redding; American Legion Post #1; Marines Recruitment Battalion 2-19th Marines; California Highway Patrol; and many more. Each organization brings their own unique perspective to how they contribute to our community. However, each organization shares one common goal - providing support that helps make Redding a safer place for everyone. This is why it is so important that we continue to support these organizations by donated items, services, or money - so they can continue making a positive impact on our community!
The Coast Guard is a federal agency that provides law enforcement and emergency services along the U.S. coastline. The Coast Guard also assists in maritime safety, environmental monitoring, and coastal defense. The Coast Guard was established on May 29, 1790 as an arm of the Treasury Department. After a period of growth and reorganization, the Coast Guard was placed within the Department of Homeland Security on October 16, 2002. The Coast Guard has a budget of $17 billion for FY2013 which is expected to grow to $27 billion by 2023. Today, there are over 5500 members of the Coast Guardsman family who provide service all along America's coasts from Maine to California. Each member represents more than 4500 years of experience in guarding our waters and Skies! In addition to its main mission statement “To safeguard democracy at sea” the Coast Guard patrols more than 2 million square miles of coastline including: 41% area near shoreline; 91% water surface; 16% airspace – making it one of America’s most versatile land-based agencies! Tasked with many important publicsafety responsibilities such as search & rescue, pollution prevention/control, hazardous materials response and disaster relief – you name it we've got it! And unlike other law enforcement agencies whose focus can often be narrower or specific geographic areas - the Coast Guardsmen have expertise across multiple disciplines including aviation (hockey players), marine engineering (shorelines), fisheries science (commercial fishing), criminal justice (personnel security) and even culinary arts (vessels).
Redding, California's Coast Guard has been providing service to the community since 1917. The Coast Guard Auxiliary was formed in 1944 and the Coast Guard Cutter Service was created in 1947. In 1951, the Coast Guard Station Redding was built and is still used today.
Redding, California is an unincorporated community in Shasta County, California, United States. It lies on the east side of the Trinity River and has a population of about 22,000 as of 2010. The first European to visit Redding was Captain John Maynard Hutchings in 1825. He named it after his friend and mentor Colonel Charles Dana who had been killed during the Mexican–American War. The town was founded by fur traders in the early 1800s. The first post office was established at Redding on December 12, 1848. From its establishment until 1959, Redding served as the capital of Shasta County and also acted as the county seat for most of that time. In 2000, however,Redding became unincorporated again and remains a census-designated place (CDP).

Today, the Coast Guard operates over 1,000 ships and boats that provide a wide range of services including search and rescue, patrol and security along the US coastline, and environmental monitoring. In honor of its centenary in 2020, the Coast Guard is celebrates its history with a variety of gift programs. One such program is the Coast Guard gift history initiative which recipient organizations can participate in to commemorate their anniversary year. This program allows recipients to receive commemorative items – such as mementos or gifts – from both within and outside the Coast Guard. The initiative was launched in 1990 as part of National History Month celebrations. As of 2019, more than 350 organizations have participated in the program. Some key highlights from the Coast Guard gift history initiative include: - Over time, different types of gifts have been received by members of the Coast Guard for various occasions. From recognition awards to toys or items related to maritime safety/security operations, donors have found many ways to provide service support to our members. - Gifts have also been sent in commemoration of tragedy or occasion such as memorials or service days. often these are memorable moments for individuals within or across the Service who may have benefited from what was given. - Many recipients choose not to take advantage of this special opportunity but rather keep all proceedsancers directly in their own wallets instead (a practice called “multi-award”). Still others use gifts as an opportunity for social media promotion or community outreach within their organization(s).

In 1907, Redding merged with nearby Rockville to form a new city of Rockville Centre.
