By World War II, however, Arabica beans had become so rare that most people only tasted Robusta coffee. However, due to an increasing number of American soldiers stationed abroad (especially in Japan), Toraja coffee gradually gained popularity among Japanese troops and civilians alike. In fact, some say that Toraja coffee has even outpaced Robusta at becoming one of the most popular coffees around today!

Redding is located in the Central Valley of California. The city was founded by Captain John C. Fremont on December 23, 1847, as part of the Donner Party's attempt to reach the Sacramento River. The party was led by Lieutenant Colonel George A. Smith and consisted of over 100 men including James Folsom, who became known as "The Chief" because he controlled all food and water supplies for the entire party. When they reached the Redding River, they were met with hostility from Native Americans who believed that they were not welcome in their territory. This hostility continued until 1850 when General Crocker announced that American settlers must grow crops or leave and this policy called for a end to hostilities between Indians and whites.
