Navy Deployed Gift History in Redlands, California Since the early days of the United States Navy, there has been a special connection between service members and their country. From sending Christmas presents to helping out at military installations, sailors have always shown their support by gifting goods and services to their fellow servicemen and women. The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey Bay offers unique opportunities for Sailors to contribute to the war effort through giving back. This year's graduating class includes many who will be active duty naval officers or reserve officers. This tradition of giving back started with serving on submarines during World War II. submariners would send items such as cigarettes and candy bars home with their friends ashore so that those behind enemy lines could get them before they were surrendered to the Japanese army. After the war, sailors from USS Maine (LST-734) stopped shipping cigarettes off the coast of Japan in order to give away goods like kerosene cans and candy bars instead because they knew that these items would help increase morale among troops on Okinawa. The first gift exchange program organized by NPS was initiated during Vietnam War era. A group of enlisted men from USS Coral Sea (CV-3) became interested in this newfangled concept and decided to set up a distribution center near Saigon so that all soldiers working aboard ships could receive some goodies each month without having to leave their unit or ship barehanded). Since then, gift exchanges have become an annual event at NPS where Sailors from all branches of service can come together and trade products and services for funsies like clothing, gadgets, books or tools! This year's graduating class also includes many naval officers who will soon assume leadership roles within our defense establishment. Redlands is a town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 27,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. Redlands has been home to many industries including automotive manufacturing and aerospace engineering. The area around Redlands was first inhabited by the Tongva people who were displaced by Mission Santa Ana in 1769. The city of Redlands was founded on October 24, 1887 by employees of the Central Pacific Railroad as a small town called Auburn Hills. On November 1, 1887, it became a city under the name of Redlands after its incorporation into San Bernardino County. In 1916, Redlands annexed parts of neighbouring communities of Rancho Mirage and Ontario which had become isolated as a result of sandmining operations in nearby desert areas. According to The Business Journals research study "San Bernardino-Los Angeles-Redding: A Regional Profile" (2008), "Airlines serving destinations within five miles (8 km) of downtown or greater serve 2 percent (1 out of 100) or less customers per day within those five miles". Airlines that serve smaller airports have difficulty competing against larger airports with more service options outside theirserved radius; this phenomenon is known as gate drawling . The Lockheed Martin Skunk Works facility was located adjacent to what is now Orange County for about three decades beginning in the early 1970s until it relocated to Irvine county in 1997 due to budget cuts at Lockheed Martin. Many jobs were lost during that time as well such as car wash workers and other office support positions across Southern California which affected numerous businesses throughout Orange County and Riverside County thereby reducing job opportunities for residents there too much so that they could not keep up with economic development elsewhere within those counties despite having an airport only 5 miles away from their homes

This includes such industries as technology companies, energy firms and transportation companies. Many restaurants and bars have opened up their doors within walking distance of downtown while others have set up shop on edge streets near Interstate 10 or along Route 66 corridor that connects Los Angeles with Phoenix and Tucson Arizona
Redlands was founded in 1887 by John C. Fremont and his brother, George. The town was named for the red sandstone that is found in many parts of Redlands. In 1912, the city annexed land from neighboring Lancaster and became a full-fledged city. In 1984, Redlands was renamed to its current name after James M. Patterson, who helped promote agriculture in the region and led the development of a nearby watermelon growing industry.
