This year's theme is "Operation Homecoming" and includes items such as radios, digital cameras, MREs (meals Ready to Eat), and clothing items specific to each unit's servicing area or branch service during Operation Homecoming such as BDUs (Belts Before Dudes) and helmets. There will also be an appearance by Command Sergeant Major John McCarthy who will give out goodies such as candy canes and cigarettes to lucky Marines!

Redondo Beach was founded on December 3, 1887 by Isidore and Stella Redondo. The first post office in the town was established on January 1, 1888. In 1916, the name of the town was changed to Redondo Beach after a gift from Mrs. Alice Addams. The first movie theater in Redondo Beach opened in 1927 and continued operating until 1949. In 1951, the city government merged with Torrance to form City of Torrance. The two cities had different zoning laws which led to their separate growth over time. In 1984, City of Torrance annexed part of Hermosa Beach which made it a city for all purposes except for its limited water supply which still falls under Hermosa Beach's jurisdiction. In 2002, City of Torrance annexed another part of Hermosa Beach - this time making it an official city-town merger called "Redondo Beach & Hermosa Beach". The annexation resulted in increasing competition between the two cities for jobs and development opportunities as well as increased traffic congestion around both towns' borders
