Morgan built the first modern coffee house in Redwood City when they opened the Coffee House and Café on Van Ness Avenue. Redwood City was a hotbed of coffee culture during the early 1900s with many cafes and restaurants serving quality roasts from around the world at affordable prices. At one point there were over 25 different cafes and restaurants within a two-mile radius of downtown Redwood City. During World War II, much of Redwood City’s coffee trade went to war because beans were needed to make military gasoline which helped sustain American forces during wartime. As war ended, many businesses closed or changed hands as local demand for gourmet coffee decreased overall due to increased competition from other areas in Northern California that had access to more expensive beans and equipment. Redwood City is an urban center located in San Mateo County, California, United States. The city was founded in 1868 by lumber baron John Sutter and his partners as a small agricultural community on the banks of the San Francisco Bay. It grew rapidly in the late 19th century and became one of the largest cities in California. In 1990, Redwood City was merged with San Rafael to form a new city-county government. The combined population of Redwood City and San Rafael is now over 800,000 people. Redwood City has been called "the most Hispanic town in America" because of its high concentration of Latinos. As of 2010, about 60% of the population identified as Latino or Spanish-speaking. The city is also home to several mosques and other religious institutions. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Redwood City in 1868 when John Sutter and his partners hired two Norwegian fur trappers named Lars Eriksen and Ole Kirk Christiansen to explore land near present-day Palo Alto on which they planned to build a logging camp. They found open country but low bushes that could not be logged until after trees had grown more tall than ever before; at this point they changed their name to "Sutter's Camp." The site chosen for their settlement was just south of today's downtown area on what would later become Highway 101 between Fort Point and Potrero Hill neighborhoods east of downtown (now part of South Park). In 1869, Sutter married Mary Lincoln from Illinois; they began building their log cabin on the property which would become known as Sutter House (later renamed Redwood City). They had five children: Anna (1871–1943), Willie (1873–1958), Clara (1875–1945), Harriett (1877–1969) and Edwin Forrest Sutter III (born October 15, 1880). One daughter died young at age 16 while another succumbed to disease twelve years later at age 24 when she fell ill with tuberculosis during World War I.. An early resident diary entry described it as being ""a little rough around the edges but we will get better"" After only a year living there, they decided against staying any further due to dirt road conditions across acres that still needed clearing up () so Harriett returned home with her family for a time before moving back out west permanently around 1895 (). For many years thereafter most families lived close together within easy walking distance either out into town or downriver on opposite sides of busy Presidio Creek where rafting canoes were unloaded during summer months. Many descendants still live very close by even into well beyond retirement age; however some have moved away since various changes/population growth has brought increased competition for limited natural resources etc.). Today almost all residents are long term residents who enjoy easy access both inside & outside city limits making it one continuous multi-ethnic tapestry!

It is the most populous city in Silicon Valley and the second-largest city overall after San Francisco. The name “Redwood City” was given to thecity by General John C. Fremont in 1839 while he was serving as commander of an expedition against the Apache Indians on Rancho ad Hoc (now part of Menlo Park). The name came from numerous redwoods that were found near what is now downtown Redwood City. In 1868, two years after Gold Rush fever had reached South Bay, Mayor James Wolk put together a group of businessmen to select a new site for a town because they could not find any suitable land east of San Jose. They chose what is now Golden Gate Park because it appeared to be open space with no wealthy residents or businesses nearby and it would be easy to get transportation into town from eastward. When Wolk proposed naming his new town “Redwood City” he received approval from both mayor Wolk and Gold Rush veterans who had come down south for meetings about establishing trading posts along the Central Coast Trail
