From the 1800s to the present, Redwood City has been a hotbed of gun culture. The city’s history with firearms is deep and rich, and it can be found in both public and private hands. In fact, some of the earliest firearms in Redwood City were purportedly acquired by Captain John Alexander Templer, who was credited with being the first European to settle in California. Captain Templer purchased two pistols from Spanish settlers in 1769, which he used as cooking implements during his time at Mission San Francisco de Asís. By 1822, Captain Templer had moved his family south to Stockton before purchasing a land grant of 6,000 acres near San Rafael Creek in 1828. There he began developing what would become Redwood City. During its early years as a small town, Redwood City relied heavily on Native American hunting and gathering for its subsistence. One such resource was game animals that were hunted annually by local residents from traps set out along the creekbanks. With access to this natural resourcesand also due to its location close to major cities like Sacramento and San Francisco, guns played an important role in Redwood City’s cultural landscape throughout much of the 19th century. One such early GUN owner was James Mclntyre (1806-1881), who operated a store on Second Street between Masonic Square and Third Street from 1833 until his death three years later. At James Mclntyre’s store there were handguns available for purchase by anyone who could afford them – not just those living within walking distance of the store itself! This type of atmosphere profoundly influenced Gun Culture throughout much of California during this time period; GUN ownership became deeply ingrained into Californian society as a way for individuals to protect themselves against crime oratory often took second place behind personal firearm ownership privileges! In addition to their economic importance as sales outlets for handguns, other businesses located near Gun Clubhouses also functioned as venues where Concealed Carry Affidavits (CCAs) could be obtained and/or lessons on howto use handguns safely were given out free of charge to participants! This atmosphere helped foster an overall friendly relationship betweenGun Ownership & law enforcement officers; many CCAs would remain confidential even after they had been turned over to authorities! A particularly noteworthy event involving GUN ownership occurred on October 14th 1865 when Governor Goodwin Knight signed into law “An Act To Regulate Firearms” which provided for registration requirements for all handgun purchases statewide including those made at gun clubs! The following year saw another landmark development when Mayor George Tilton appointed Wm Henshawe vice president of the Board Of Supervisors; this position gave Henshawe carte blanche authority regarding GUN ownership within city limits!! This expansive new level of freedom came about because Mayor Henshawe realized that GUN possession within city limits represented one important facetof Californian Gun Culture: it insured that individuals exercising their RightToBearArmscould do so freely & without fear of retribution!! Redwood City is a city in San Mateo County, California, United States. The population was 24,711 as of the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in San Mateo County after San Francisco. During World War II Redwood City played host to seven concentration camps used by the U.S military for warehouse and troop housing: Beale Air Force Base; Fort Point Naval Shipyard; Monterey Peninsula Naval Station; Victory Shipyards; and Yuma Proving Ground
Redwood City was founded on December 12, 1868 by members of the California State Legislature as the town of Refugio. The name Redwood City was chosen because of its redwood trees, which were then a new type of tree that had not yet been found in abundance in California. The first real development in Redwood City took place after the city's incorporation. A post office was established in 1869 and soon became one of the most popular destinations for mail delivery because it was located close to many mills and factories that produced goods for local consumption. Redwood City experienced some growth during World War II when a number of businesses opened up to support the war effort. However, much of this growth stopped once hostilities ended and the economy began to decline. After the war, many businesses closed down or moved out as competition from other cities increased. In 1969, Redwood City voted to become an autonomous municipality and adopted its own governing structure which included a mayor and council.
