Redwood City, California is a city located in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. The population was 68,651 as of 2010. The Redwood City Municipal Airport is the largest airport in Redwood City and its metropolitan area has a total population of over 1 million people. The first European settlement in what is now Redwood City was made by Captain John Sloat on December 23, 1846. He named it after his ship, the "Redwood" which had just arrived from New York with lumber from the Coast Ranges. Sloat's party built a small cabin near the present-day intersection of El Camino Real and Mission Road. In 1849, Jules Bichon founded an agricultural colony at Wescambe on Eel River opposite modern day Fremont. This colony failed due to harsh weather and bacterial infection caused by a then new disease called rust fever that killed most of the early settlers within two years. On October 10, 1850, three brothers - George Washington Woodbury (1817-1885), Philip Augustus Howe (1820-1912) and Ahmancah Richards (1825-1915) - landed their vessel onshore at North Beach and began building a vineyard they named Mount Eden Vineyards & Winery; this became one of America’s earliest winegrowers with production beginning in 1853. In 1859, David Hale sold his interest in Mount Eden Vineyards & Winery to John Fenton for $10,000 dollars; this represented one percent ownership of America’s first dry red wine industry. In 1863 saw the opening of Hwy 101 between Concord and Oakland as well as other major infrastructure projects such as BART/Fremont Streetcar Line Extension into Redwood City proper including what is today North First Street adjacent to Sutter's Mill Park District courthouse complex; these developments helped spur development around North Beach culminating with incorporation as a city on May 25th, 1888 under charter granted by County Judge James Moulton Howe pursuant to article III section 3 of the California Constitution which provided: “The Mayor And Council Of The CITY OF REDWOOD CITY SHALL HAVE POWER TO PROVIDE FOR THE EDUCATION OF THE POPULATION BY ESTABLISHING A SCHOOL DISTRICT AND ALLocating Appropriate Money Therefor” During World War II many patriotic Americans left their homes for food storage or battle fronts such as Saipan where efforts were made to grow produce for local Consumption during That terrible time period but ended up being quite fruitless because we all know how things turned out didn't they? All kidding aside I digress... RedWoodCity came together AFTERWWII during reconstruction efforts when borders were reopened following Japan's surrender and numerous businesses relocated back into our town including Kaiser Aluminum Company which anchored Main Street until it moved out circa 1961 becoming County Services Company Incorporated etcetera etcetera until finally Amazon who bought much land surrounding downtownposing an environmental threat moved upriver again so fast we forgot they ever left! HAHAHAHA

Redwood City is a city in Marin County, California, United States. The population was 44,811 at the 2010 census. The name of the city derived from the redwoods that line its borders. Redwood City experiences a warm Mediterranean climate (Köppen: Csa), according to the Köppen Climate Classification system. The first European to visit what is now Redwood City was Gaspar de Portolà on November 4, 1769. He named it after his native land of Barcelona, Spain. In 1821, Mission San Francisco de Asís began operations here and soon became a center for inland commerce and manufacturing due to its location by the sea. The death of Commodore John D'Arcy William King in 1827 halted this growth but resumed with increased intensity when Merchant Marine Captain Joshua Sloat leased property at Point Reyes National Seashore in 1843 and developed it as an undeveloped seaside town called "Redwood City" after him. This led to its current name despite no evidence that trees grew there originally! In 1868, millionaire George Hearst purchased an area south of town from Captain Sloat and founded Hearstland under new management with plans for housing, citrus production and other commercial ventures which never came to fruition because of his death in 1896. After his death however much development took place including the construction of Hearst Tower which overlooks downtown today. By 1916 over 50% of all employable men were working within three miles (6 km) of downtown; this area has since shrunk significantly as job opportunities have arisen outside city limits overall and within Marin County itself suburban areas have picked up most employment growth within commuting distance instead while Redwood City has lost some significant jobs throughout its history due primarily to lack of investment or strategic planning on the part of local officials whose focus has been largely upon attracting more jobs rather than keeping their community humming economically During World War II many workers from nearby Decatur who had evacuated went into work here as well as employees from San Francisco who were laid off during war-time shortages elsewhere in Northern California such as Santa Cruz and Sausalito also creating small businesses along with dozens more residential buildings built between 1945-1946 following Japan’s surrender which resulted in abandonment by both military families occupying coastal towns prior to their return home during 1946-1949 reclamation efforts by local government ensued resulting in over 100 homes being erected - many still standing today including many large ranches extending into surrounding hills providing grazing/livestock habitat for numerous species including deer, bears and cattle
