Reedley is a small town in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 3,352 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area and has a large aerospace industry presence. Reedley was once known as "The Arsenal of the Pacific" because it produced many military items during World War II. Reedley's history began with settlers who arrived in 1846: John Reed and his family, Isaac Cline and his family, James Sprague and his family, Charles Goodyear and his brother-in-law John Woolridge. In 1851 they founded the town of Easton on what is now north central Reedley Avenue. The first post office was established in 1852 south of present day Elmira Road (then called Indian Hill Road). In 1860 George Wills donated land for a school which became Reedley High School; however, due to an earlier donation by Wills' son Hiram Wills Jr., there are no records of when or how this school opened. One important event that occurred in Reedley during this time period was the conversion from adobe to brick building in 1865 by Haji el Khalili (1809-1892), one of the founders of Oakland. He also donated land for a Catholic church which served as their first rectory; construction started in 1870 but failed due to lack funds. A new rectory was built on Church Street in 1875 thanks to funding from Supervisor John Fenton and private donations from local residents including Elias Howe, father ofalist painter Nathaniel Hawthorne Howe. In 1907 Alexey Kondratyev moved into Reedleys lumberyard which he had purchased two years earlier from Samuel Morse & Brothers along Telegraph Road east side then north side until it connected with existing wire fence line running east-west just west ofpresent day Main Street corner about 4/5ths mile southwest from original site where Kondratyev currently resides at intersection today’s Main St., after having originally resided at location 3/4ths mile southwest near old Post Office building site prior thereto . This move represented significant change for village as well as adjacent townships located between main core area bounded by Telegraph Rd., Cedar Ave., Hayward Blvd./ CR 825E & IH 35W (& Iron Mountain Rd.) since ownership & management within Village boundaries changed hands numerous timesduring early 20th century thru various business partnerships among owners/ managers/ employees thereof resulting ultimately in community development progressivism . Reedley was founded in 1868 by John Reed and his brother, George. The town became a railroad center due to its location on the San Joaquin River and its access to berths on the Central Pacific Railroad. In 1916, Reedley was named one of the " twenty towns of excellence" by The New York Times.
