Reedley, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 10,847 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1872 by George Reed and his wife Martha. It became an incorporated municipality in 1959. Its ZIP code is 93634. Reedley began as a small farming community with only a few families living onsite. By the early 1870s, however, it had become an important rail junction for eastern Kern County because of its location at the convergence of two major wagon routes: the Butterfield Overland Mail route from San Francisco to Las Vegas and the Southern Pacific Railroad's Oakland-Lodi line to Bakersfield. In 1872 George Reed bought land adjacent to what is now downtown Reedley and started building a ranch house and barn that still stands today. The first post office was established in 1875 and served both local residents and railroad passengers until 1903 when it relocated to larger facility on Main Street east of town. The original train depot burned down in 1899 but was rebuilt within six months using lumber salvaged from other destroyed buildings in the area.. A new school district was organized around 1902 which included Reedley; it remained an unincorporated community until 1959 when it became part of the newly formed Kern County municipality
Reedley was founded in 1876 by Nathaniel Reed and his brother, Barton. The town was named after the Reed family's farmstead on the east side of the Feather River. In 1881, Reedley became a city and was incorporated as such. In 1923, it merged with Selma to form Selma-Reedley.
