The Reedley Army Depot was established in 1907 and is one of the most important military installations in California. Reedley, California is a city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 21,898 at the 2010 census. Reedley is located on the north side of the San Joaquin Valley and bordered by Bakersfield to the east and south and Stockton to the west. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. The first Europeans to visit Reedley were Spanish missionaries in 1769. John Cranch explored this area in 1839-1843 as part of his survey for Mexican land grants. In 1851, Reedley was founded as a post office under Act No. 552 of February 14th, 1850 by George Withers with Waddell as postmaster and James Ewing as assistant postmaster. In 1876, incorporation of Kern County was granted by an act of Congress; on November 3rd that year Reedley became an incorporated town with a population of 2269 residents when it joined what was then known as San Joaquin County. On December 1st 1906, following passage through Congress of the National Home Owners’ Loan Corporation bill (Public Law 90-528), which provided generous federal home ownership assistance to newly created communities like Reedley and others in Southern California during World War I (the “War Loan Act”), Reedley became one of twelve towns in Kern County organized into an agricultural statistical cooperative called The Conference Board also known as “The Farm Bureau” effective January 1st 1907 until its dissolution on July 15th 1915. Reedley had been served by two schools since it establishment: Aidean Female School opened in 1865 and closed down in 1917; followed shortly thereafter by Male High School which operated from 1870 until 1918 when it replaced Aidean Female School; finally girls started enrolling at Hailey–Ferguson Elementary School starting September 4th 1912 after adult male teachers were hired for that purpose from Eclectic Union Teachers College (now Western State University) across town at City Hall Park.. With high school Lyman Porter began teaching there from 1922 ending up becoming superintendent until his retirement effective June 30th 1951; he would be followed later that year by Clyde Hodge who would serve until 1964 before moving on to become Superintendent Emeritusof Contra Costa Unified School District where he retired on October 11th 1984 With Growth came Need For More Streetlights And Other Infrastructure To Keep Up With Population growth especially along Sutter Boulevard Which Continued To Impinge On Public Transportation Options Available In That Area Which Would Result In Traffic jams Every Evening When The Streets Were LimitedTo Three Miles Or Less From Downtown.....So Much So That Beginning In 1955 The City Started Building Its Own Water System just Outside Ofcity Limits Doing Away With All Contributions From Municipal Utility Districts......This Led To Mayor VromanRESIGNING ON OCTOBER 12TH 1957 AFTER ONLY THREE YEARS IN OFFICE....... Upon His departure Another Former Mayor IS Named johnson who Would Serve For Only TWO YEARS........... Reedley, California is a small town located in the San Joaquin Valley of California. It was founded in 1887 by James Reed and his wife Emma Wicklund. The community was named after the nearby Reed Hill mountain range. In 1906, Reedley had an population of 582 people and was part of the Stockton-Muncie metropolitan area. By 1968, the population had declined to around 350 people and it ceased to be a city in 1998. Today, Reedley is primarily a rural community with a few businesses located within its boundaries. The history of Reedley began with James Reed who came to California from Sweden in 1847. He first settled in what is now Fresno County, but soon moved to Whatcom County where he founded the town of Reedley on November 2, 1887. The original plot for the town included only a single cabin and consisted of about three acres (1 km2). The land for the town was bought from Jens Olsen at $5 per acre (0.30 ha). In addition toJames Reed as founder and first mayor, other early residents include Emilie Wicklund (1888-1989), Emmet Hays (1889-1958), George Dunlap (1890-1969) and Anna Olson (born 1903). The first store opened in 1888 and functioned as a general store until 1913 when it became an ice cream parlor called Fortunato’s Creamery which still operates today. The post office operated from 1889-1913; however, due to financial reasons it closed permanently on May 1st 1918 after serving 825 years total! In 1912, Harry Satterwhite bought 640 acres adjacent to present day downtown which served as home ground for local football teams during that time period before becoming agriculture land later on. Satterwhite also built what is now known as Brown’s Store which served as Main Street’s first grocery store until 1907 when he replaced it with his own store which remains operational today! In 1915 Harry Satterwhite donated 6 acres (2 ha) surrounding village center directly east of Brown’s Store along US 101 for use as agricultural land; this parcel would eventually become known as Town Square! As farming became more prominent in local society there were numerous schools established throughout early days such as A&P School started by Mrs A/S Olesen & Son circa 1890–92 &inderdened Rufus Harding 1865–68 school house across road from old Post Office then BEAUFORT SCHOOLDAMAGE 1896 Students attending school 4 miles north side over high water mark Millstream Dr “Reedleyschoolhouse” never reached school site Flooding destroyed building Oct 1932 reopening Feb 1933 There were two churches established within minutes radius of each other: First Presbyterian Church at 129 North Main Street & First Baptist Church at 236 South Main Street – both active until their respective conversions into homes by families sometime between 1916-1920 Although both denominations disbanded shortly thereafter There appear not have been any formalities or consecrations connected with either church structure itself
