In the early 1800s, Reedley was a small town in Northern California. It was known for its wine and cattle ranching, and its soldiers were some of the most decorated in the area. One such soldier was Captain James Fenton who served in the Mexican-American War (1846–48). He is credited with leading an attack on Chapultepec Castle that helped drive Mexico out of California. Captain Fenton's military career continued after his return home, culminating with his appointment as adjutant general of California in 1854. During this time he also served as a member of the peacekeeping expedition to Nicaragua in 1855. Afterward he became an advocate for American expansionism and played a key role in helping to create the United States Army in 1861. One of Captain Fenton's greatest accomplishments came during the Civil War (1861–1865). He fought at battles such as Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville and led engagements such as Gettysburg. In addition, he played a critical role in building up Ulysses S. Grant's army and helping to win many victories against Confederate forces. At times Captain Fenton seemed like an almost superhuman figure - even President Abraham Lincoln called him "the best man I ever met." Aftermath of war saw increased demand for military gifts from civilians throughout America. As a result, Captain Fenton's company joined other veteran units throughout California looking for new recipients for their medals and honors. These groups eventually formed what is now known as The Military Historical Society of Southern California (MHSOC), which continues to collect military memorabilia from across America and worldwide today.

Reedley's military deployed gift history began with World War II. In 1942, the Reedley Volunteer Fire Department donated a C-47 Globemaster I to the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE). The Globemaster I was used as a training and casualty evacuation aircraft. It was used by the RAF and other airlines before being transferred to the USAFE in 1945. The USAFE used it for aerial refueling operations over Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. The Globemaster I was retired from service in 1957. In 1951, Reedley School District donated an A-3C Skyhawk jet trainer to the USAFE. It was flown by pilots from various nations for air exercises over Europe. In 1956, Reedley School District again donated an A-3C Skyhawk jet trainer to the USAFE. This time it became operational as a training aircraft for fighter pilots of NATO countries during the Cold War era. In 1977, Reedley School District again donated an A-3C Skyhawk jet trainer to the USAFE after years of use by US Marine Corps fighter pilots during Operation Just Cause III in Nicaragua City. In 1992, Reedley School District gifted its last A-3C Skyhawkjet trainer to the USAFE when it became surplus property of US Military forces stationed in Japan following Operation Desert Storm.. The jets were flown back into service with Japan's JSTARS reconnaissance squadron at Ohara Air Base.. Since 1992, there have been numerous other donations of military edged technology such as drones and 3D printing capabilities to various organizations within Reedley school district including: NASA Ames Research Center; California Institute of Technology; University of Southern California; Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory; Northrop Grumman Corporation;; Boeing Co.; Hewlett Packard Company;;
Reedley is a city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 30,549 at the 2010 census. It is the second largest city in Kern County and the county seat of Kern County. Reedley was founded by James Reed in 1876 as a small dairy town on the banks of the San Joaquin River. The name "Reedley" was derived from James Reed's ownership of a piece of property that bordered what is now downtown Reedley. In 1881, he donated land to make up for an error in his initial registration for the town site. In 1886, construction began on what would become Reedley's first post office and street grid. The community grew quickly and by 1890 it had a school, three churches, two stores, and eighteen homes. By 1901 it had twenty-four homes and two businesses—one grocery store and one flour mill—and employed fifty people. In 1906–07, during World War I (1914–18), Reedley served as Headquarters for American forces in Southern California. In 1949 Reedy became an open-air shopping center when its original mainstreet mall opened adjacent to Interstate 5 south of downtown Los Angeles

Reedley is a small town in Placer County, California, United States. The population was 3,673 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento–San Joaquin Valley metropolitan area. Reedley was founded in 1868 by settlers from eastern Massachusetts. The town was originally named "Winchester" after Winchester, England. In 1887, when Reedley became an incorporated town, it chose to be known as Reedley after its founder and first mayor In 1907, Reedley voted to become an independent city and received its charter from the California Constitution Revision Commission on November 10th of that year. On January 1st of 1915, Reedley annexed the neighboring towns of Florin and Easton which had also chosen to become independent cities. In 1922 the City Council passed a resolution creating a park system for all three annexed towns and named it "Reedleys Park". On July 8th of 2004 Mayor Bob Dutton announced his plans to close down all six businesses within downtown Reedleys limits due to lack of business investment since then (the businesses were located in two blocks north-south on Main Street). The closure would have impacted 400 jobs but fortunately through private donations from various individuals and foundations some managed to keep their doors open until late fall 2004 despite having negative cash flow; this event symbolized what could have been had Mayor Dutton's proposal come into fruition.
