The California Army National Guard has a rich history dating back to the late 1800s. The original unit, the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment (1-9 I), was formed in 1881 and served in various conflicts throughout California before being mobilized for World War II. The battalion fought in the Battle of Guadalcanal and other campaigns during the war, earning two battle stars. After the war, 1-9 I was redesignated as the 3rd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment (3-9 I). The regiment served in Korea and Vietnam before being disbanded in 1970. However, elements of 3-9 I continued to serve until 1979 when they were consolidated with 2nd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment (2-15 I) to form 4th Brigade Combat Team(4BCT). During peacetime, 1st Brigade’s soldiers are typically assigned to units located at Camp Pendleton or Rialto Army Depot for storage or maintenance purposes. However, on multiple occasions since 2000 CAC members have responded to calls uprisings or natural disasters such as hurricanes Katrina and Rita. These deployments have included support operations near San Diego and Baja California; missions inside Iraq; training exercises with Mexican military forces; air drops of food supplies into southern Mexico; and assistance with search and rescue efforts following both earthquakes that struck central California earlier this year. In total, army members from 4 BCT have been activated more than 350 times since 2000. Today’s CA ANG soldiers are equipped with modern technologies including body armor and helmet systems; unmanned aerial vehicles; artillery pieces such as howitzers and rockets; armored personnel carriers called Bradleys; communications relay towers known as command posts or control centers;and battlefield mounted guns like an M249 SAW or Barrett M96A1 cannon. They also carry along large stocks of ammunition which can be used in a variety of situations such as self defense against guerrilla warfare threats or domestic violence incidents.

Most notable are two large American Ferries terminals: Pier 50 (formerly called Terminal 1) on Jack London Square across from City University of San Francisco and Terminal 3 on Embarcadero Freeway just south of downtown which handles ferry traffic between Oakland and San Francisco; both were built in response to increased demand from container ships docking at Oakland's Ports Allston/Alameda International Airport 2 miles west of downtown is Rincon Park - home to three golf courses, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, swimming pools and a children's play area - which became popular among locals for joggers looking for an open space amid warehouses then – now – high tech companies located nearby
