The San Francisco Navy Yard was founded in 1851 as the first navy yard in the United States. Theyard became a department of the Navy in 1879, and was renamed the Naval Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in 1907. The company built over 1,000 ships during its history, including many famous warships such as USS Constitution (1868), USS Maine (1904), and USS Olympia (1911). In 1945, the California Legislature passed a law providing for redevelopment of part of the naval yard into an office park called Hunters Point. This led to increased demand for job space by both commercial and military organizations, which led to another expansion of the navy yard during the early 1970s. In 1984, Congress transferred ownership of the naval shipbuilding company to Cal Maritime Industries Incorporated. Today, Cal Maritime Industries operates both yards under their own name as well as several other plants across California. The San Francisco Navy Yard has seen many changes throughout its history – from being used primarily for shipbuilding to becoming an important center for defense research and development in recent years. It is still one of America’s most active navalyards today, with a wide variety of operations ongoing - from repairing ships to creating new ones.

Rialto is a small city in the California Central Valley, about 35 miles northeast of Fresno. The population was 25,953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno-Clovis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Rialto were Spanish missionary friars on their way from Monterey to capture Indians who lived near the coast on smuggling raids in 1807. In 1824, Captain John J. Folsom built a ferry terminal here and named it after his friend and mentor, Giovanni Botello (1796-1865). In 1856, businessman Julius Rosenwald donated land for an public school system that would provide education for locals as well as Mexican Americans living east of Bakersfield. Rosenwald believed that education would unite people along racial lines and spur economic development in the area. The new school district was called East Palo Alto Unified School District (EPUSD). In 1961, when EPUSD merged with Alameda County's neighboring Oakland Unified School District to form Bay Area Education Agency (BAEA), Rialto became one of its five charter members in Alameda County. By then, it had become one of America's most xpanded small towns with a population growth rate above 2%. With its booming economy came rapid housing development; by 2000 Rialto had over 1,000 homes and an estimated population of 27,000 residents

Rialto, California is a small town located in Southeastern California on the banks of the San Joaquin River. The community was founded in 1873 by subscription and it became an incorporated town in 1907. In 1915, Rialto joined the newly created city of Stockton. It had a population of about 50 residents when it lost its charter in 1967 and had a population of around 100 when it regained its charter in 1978. As of 2010, the population was estimated to be over 150 people. The history of Rialto begins with goldmining operations that took place here from 1851 to 1862. A post office was established at Rialto in 1872, and mail was delivered here until 1905. The first store opened here in 1876, and two years later Higginson & Company built a flourmill on the riverbank for grinding corn for local Consumption Mills products. At this time there were only about 12 residents living in what is now downtown Rialto; however, by 1886 there were over 25 households residing here as well as several businesses catering to local miners and their families such as Blacksmiths Shop (1886), Baker’s (1887), Coal Miner’s Supplyhouse (1894), Lumber Yard (1896), Millinery Store(1905), Mercantile Store(1915) and Saw Mill(1920). During World War I, many American soldiers served here including General John J. Pershing who stayed at the hotel during his stay at Stockton after leaving his command in Europe; he then went on touster service at nearby White Sands munitions plant before returning home to serve with distinction during World War II as Commander-in-Chief United States Forces Western Pacific Area headquartered at Yokohama Bay Naval Base before becoming Commanding General United States Army Air Forces Central Pacific Area headquarters at Hickam Air Force Base Hawaii where he died November 15th 1948 aged 80 years old having led Allied air forces throughout WWII which destroyed more than 2 million Japanese aircraft including 40% of Japan’s total war production capability).
