The Richmond National Guard is a military unit of the United States government that was created in 1861. It has been headquartered at Fort Belvoir, Virginia since 1864. The Richmond National Guardsmen are currently composed of 9,000 active duty soldiers and 30 civilians who serve as honorary members. The national guard was activated on April 14, 1861, when Confederate States of America General Robert E. Lee ordered its formation from various units scattered throughout Virginia. At the time, there were only 8500 men serving in the Richmond National Guard. It would grow to over 150,000 by 1865. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), the Richmond National Guard played an important role in both sides of the conflict. They fought primarily against Union forces but also took part in engagements such as skirmishes and battles at Gaines’ Mill and Yorktown Peninsula. In total, they lost over 100 soldiers and civilians during the war. Following the war, many of these veterans returned home to their respective states but a few decided to stay and help rebuild what had once been America’s top military force. Among these individuals was Colonel John Ralston Purcell who served as commanding officer for the 1st Battalion San Francisco California Infantry Regiment from 1865-1867; he later became Commanding Officer for Company D 4th Ulysses S Grant’s Missouri Volunteer Infantry Brigade which fought at Pea Ridge (May 25–27, 1862), Wilderness (April 6-7, 1864), Antietam (September 17-19 1862), Fredericksburg (December 13TH 1863) and Chapin’s Farm (February 25th 1864). In 1870 Captain James Hartsfield organized a detachment from Richmond under command Major General William Farragut Jr to suppress a slave uprising near NorfolkVirginia known as “Norfolk Insurrectionate[d] 1830 [sic]". This event is often cited as one of history's first public demonstrations of black male self-reliance within white society withstanding siege conditions while engaged in combat against white troops under enemy control - something that would not occur again until World War II years later when African Americans served openly in combat roles under different titles or commands

Richmond, California is located in the Central Valley of California. The city was founded by Spaniards in 1846 as a small mission town named San Juan Bautista, and it became an American possession following the Mexican-American War. In 1871, Richmond merged with the nearby city of Fresno to form a new city called Fresno County. The name for Riverside County until 1959 was Orange County. After that year, when counties were created across the state, Orange County became Riverside County. In 1993, after years of discussion and various changes in government control, Richmond became an independent city again and has since grown rapidly into one of Southern California’s most populous cities with over 250,000 residents. The first Europeans to visit what is now Richmond were Spanish explorers who journeyed upriver from Mexico City in 1821 looking for a route to El Dorado. They found enough water and land for their trip but did not find any gold or other valuable resources. When they returned home they reported finding nothing but Poverty Point Creek which took its name from another Spanish explorer who had named it that same year on his way back from El Dorado Canyon - José Antonio de la Plaza y Costilla y Ocampo (Jóvenes de la Plaza y Costilla). In 1846 local resident Manuel Nieto built the first post office at what is now downtown Richmond on present day James Street just south of Market Street (the location where Congress Avenue meets First Street today). It was later renamed after General Winfield Scott who fought in the Mexican-American War and served as Governor of California during that time period before becoming Vice President under John Tyler US president in 1850-1851 before succeeding Polk asPresident when Buchanan was impeached. General Scott's POST OFFICE remained open until 1907 due to population growth along James Street which then caused Postmaster General Amos Kendall to close all LA postal buildings including those at 5th & Vine Streets effective 6/24/1907 On 12/4/1847 two Russian Missionaries by the name of Semenovsky and Ovchinnikoff arrived ashore onshore near Point Reyes National Seashore from ship "Plymouth" commanded by Captain Nicholas 253rd US Coast Guard Infantry Regiment led by Lt Col Asa Grayford RNVR off shore from USS Constitution anchored off Point Reyes Light House about 15 miles southeast of San Francisco Bay Bridge). One hundred fifty nine Russian passengers disembarked at this point also including thirty four women onboard ship "Plymouth". This event helped solidify American presence onshore near Point Reyes Light House throughout much of the late 1800s related primarily to whaling industry although Russia withdrew its involvement in this activity soon thereafter For many years there have been many conjecture about what happened next between Piers Island Light House though never proven……………..known only through recollections or hearsay
