Over time, ridgecrest has become one of Southern California's largest agricultural communities with its many farmers' markets selling produce from their fields; restaurants such as The Blue Moon Tavern have been located on various strips around town; and two high schools - Jameson High School (now renamed Pacific Union HS) and Hilltop HS - have been constructed within close proximity to each other since 1919/20 making it easy for students from both schools to get together for athletics or extracurricular activities
