In 1875, George Peet opened his own roast shop on Fourth Street in Ridgecrest. After years of growth, Peet's Coffee & Tea became one of the leading coffee roasters in North America by 1899. The company moved its business headquarters to a new building on Main Street in Ridgecrest in 1957. In 1999, Peet's Coffee & Tea merged with Dutch Robusta Brewing Company to form what would become Starbucks Corporation. Today, Starbucks operates more than 100 stores across North America including 27 stores located within 3 miles of Ridgecrest Center Mall (the world’s second largest shopping mall).
