In 1990 voter approval was given for construction of a new high school which opened in 1992

The Guard's role changed following the American Revolution when militias became a permanent part of our national defense. In 1812, the National Guard aided in suppressing a slave insurrection in New Orleans. From then on, the Guard's primary mission was to protect national property and citizens within its jurisdiction. During World War I, America's volunteer forces played a significant role in Europe. On April 6th, 1917, General John J. Pershing called forth all available units of the National Guard to helpfill key roles along the Western Front including trench warfare and machine gunning operations against German forces. After America entered World War II, Army troops were diverted from overseas deployment in order to man land fortifications at home while reservists - known as "the Golden Age" of National Guard participation - answered calls for service across America (1940-1945). In 1984 Congress passed Public Law 98-595 which amended Title 32 USC ยง 527 which provided for National Guardsmen able to serve more than two years without having to leave their states or territories for any length of time; this change allowed soldiers who had served three months or less with their unit/ regiment designated as being inactive duty status (ID) within six months after leaving their unit/ regiment effective date to be reenlisted into that particular Regiment or Unit if they so desired... The Reserve Officers Training Corps program has been completely integrated into Army ROTC since 1978; accordingly NCOs enrolling therein have completed Basic Military Training (BMT), followed by careers services training at Fort Benning Georgia before deploying either combatant commands distant from home... currently there are over 540 thousand fulltime enlisted members component only Army National Guardsman with an additional 350 thousand active duty members component only AirNational Guardsmen
