In 2003, voters approved an $80 million dollar bond measure to build three additional high schools: South Mountain Ranch HS (now Desert Hills HS), Keystone Canyon HS (now Mountain View HS) and Willowbrook Valley HS (now Riverside Mesa HS). On October 9th 2006 voters passed Proposition 98 which authorizedphase IIIA of development including 4 new high schools: Desert Hills HS (formerly Northridge High School), Willowbrook Valley HS (formerly Riverside Mesa HS), South Mountain RanchHS (now Desert Hills HS), Keystone CanyonHS (now Mountain View HS) With this expansion came increased competition for jobs within the city limits with many businesses relocating out into Palm Springs because there are now 8 all-purpose campuses instead of 3 only used for academics purposes

Ridgecrest is located in Inyo County, California on the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Ridgecrest was founded in 1879 by George C. Robinson and his wife, Fannie. It was one of the first towns in Inyo County. The town held a fair every year from 1881 to 1903 and was known for its maple syrup production. The town became a ghost town when the Gadsden-Butte Railway built a line through the mountains and bypassed Ridgecrest. The railway closed in 1957 and much of Ridgecrest's population ceased to exist. Today, there is only a few buildings remaining from early Ridgecrests such as Robinson's store, post office, schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, and church. The history of Ridgecrest begins with George C. Robinson who settled here in 1879 after migrating from Kentucky with his family. He arrived at what is now Ridgecrest via wagon train following the gold Rush that began in 1848 throughout California. He set up a small trade with local Native Americans before purchasing land here which he developed into a small farming community with four square miles of land measuring about two miles by one mile² . After several years of hard work, he had enough money to build himself a home and started selling products from his farm including maple syrup, flour for breadmaking, cheese, eggs (which he brought overland), chickens (which were later used for egg production), honeybees (for pollination) and saddles made from horse hides . His first store opened on April 17th , 1881 within three weeks of arriving in this new settlement which included seven other stores scattered around Inyo County along with eighty-two residents!
