The United States Air Force has been providing airlift and support to the local community in Ripon, California since World War II. The USAF’s 1st Airlift Wing provides more than 6,000 weekday flight hours and services more than 164 aircraft from its facilities in nearby Sacramento and Stockton. Today, the USAF operates several types of C-130H Hercules transport planes that can provide a range of capabilities for operational staging or delivery of goods or people to remote locations. These planes remain an important asset to the Air Force because they are able to fly at high altitudes and have great maneuverability. In addition, the USAF operates two B-2 Spirit bombers as part of its Bomber Command. The bombers provide long-range strike capability against targets throughout Asia Pacific. They also offer deterrence by conducting operations over Japanese cities while flying above them, preventing their citizens from being demoralized by enemy airstrikes.

The California Air National Guard's (CANA) 4th Infantry Division was organized in 1918 under the command of Major General Arthur A. Bliss. With World War I ending, the division began its training at Camp Kearny, New Jersey in 1919 and then moved to San Diego, California for basic training. The division arrived in France on November 3rd, 1920 and fought its first battle in that war two days later when it participated in the Battle of Belleau Wood. After the war ended, the division was stationed at Hagerstown, Maryland before being deployed to China as part of American Expeditionary Force during World War II. The division saw active service from December 1941 until May 1945 when it returned to United States soil. In 1946, the 4th Infantry Division was demobilized at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and re-organized as a battalion unit within the Air National Guard instead of becoming an all-volunteer unit again like before. Ripon, California is located in the North Central Valley of California and has a population of over 60,000. The city was founded in 1868 by James Ripon as a small agricultural town on the banks of the Kings River. The name comes from its location on the south bank of the river opposite San Francisco. The first post office in Ripon opened in 1870. In 1925, ripon became an incorporated town with a mayor and two councils. In 1984, ripon became an unincorporated community with no local government. The city is home to several large institutions including Ripon College which is one of America's largest collegiate institution for womens' studies and men's colleges Stanislaus Valley College and Diablo Valley College which are both major research universities. Additionally, there are many smaller businesses and factories that support the city's economy. Downtown provides an area where people can walk or take public transportation to different parts of the city while also having access to various stores and restaurants. As Ripon grows more popular, it plans on expanding its downtown district with new shopping malls, restaurant complexes, office buildings and other real estate developments that will help make it even more vibrant than it already is!

It grew rapidly during the days of the gold Rush, and by 1887 it boasted an population of over 1,000 people. The town quickly became a center for agricultural production and manufacturing, and its economy remained strong until after World War II when it began to decline. In recent decades, Ripon has undergone several revitalization efforts, most notably through the development of its downtown area which is now home to a variety of businesses and cultural attractions.
Ripon, California was founded by David Ripon in 1849 on what is now the Gold Rush-era rancho that he and his wife, Maria, acquired from the Tejon Creek Indian tribe. The town was named for Maria's brother-in-law, John Ripon and it became a post office in 1852. In 1865, after California had become a state, Ripon donated land to the new state government for a courthouse and jail. He also donated land to the town of Salinas for a public park and school. The first store in town opened in 1870. In 1875, Ripon built the first addition to his rancho - an adobe building called the "Hacienda". In 1902, he sold his entire Rancho Santa Fe holdings to Daniel Higginson. Today, most of ripon's original buildings remain extant including: Hacienda (1870), Post Office (1852), Town Hall (1865), Market House (1876), Masonic Temple (1903), civic center (1998) and Douglas Park with its replica of Ripon's adobe building from 1870 which is now home to Salinas High School ().
