The National Guard in Ripon, California has been a part of our community for over sixty years. The unit was first organized on November 15, 1942 and has fought in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Today, the National Guard can be found guarding our city streets and highways as well as providing support to local law enforcement. One of the most unique aspects of the National Guard in Ripon is that it is not an all-volunteer force. Instead, it is composed of soldiers from both our military and state military branches who are selected by their commanders. This allows us to provide aunique service to our community while also fostering tomunity camaraderie within our unit. In 1945, when California was hit hard by wartime rationing, the Army offered to send troops into town so that businesses could continue functioning without havingto sacrifice their employees or customers. Ripon is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, located about 71 miles (113 kilometers) east of Sacramento. The population was 2,872 at the 2010 census. Ripon is part of the Fresno, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1881 by brothers Andrew and Hiram Ripon and their father John Ripon. Ripon is located on Highway 99, approximately 13 miles west of Interstate 5. It is bordered to the north by Stockton and to the south by Visalia. The climate in ripon varies from hot year-round with average highs around 89°F (32°C), while winter lows can reach as low as 37°F (−3°C). Summertime rainfall averages around 55 inches (1 meter), while wintertime snowfall averages around 3 feet (0 meters). In January 2009, an EF2 tornado touched down just outside of Ripon injuring one person and causing extensive damage to several homes before quickly dissipating over nearby hills.

Ripon, California is a small town located in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno-Madera, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ripon was founded in 1853 by Ramón Ortiz and his wife Pilar Cuevas. The first post office opened in Ripon on October 8, 1853. In 1902, Ripon became part of the newly formed City of Fresno. Ripon is one of several communities that derive their name from Spanish settlers who arrived during the Gold Rush era in 1849-1852: Castro Creek (founded 1865), Gossamer Springs (founded 1870), and Winton (founded 1872). Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza named two villages within present-day Fresno County – Castro and Gossamer Springs – after himself and his friends José Quintero and Manuel Miranda respectively.
