The California State Navy has a long and proud history in Ripon. The first Naval Base was established at the mouth of the Sacramento River in 1847, and the California Naval Militia was organized on December 4, 1851. It is interesting to note that this date marks the beginning of naval service by the United States as a republic. In 1863, Commodore John C. Fremont sailed up the Sacramento River from Monterey Bay with his fleet to engage Admiral Don Pedro de Valdivia at Stockton Bay. The battle took place on October 20th and 21st, 1863, resulting in a great victory for Commodore Fremont and his navy. In 1892-93the USS Constitution replaced the USS Peruvian when that ship was sunk off Hebrides Island by an Icelandic vessel while en route from San Francisco to New York City with supplies for Mexico’s war effort against America’s Spanish neighbor. At this time there were no military vessels moored at Pier No 1 near what is now Terminal 5 of United States Trade Center (UTX). On November 15th 1893 USS Constitution came into drydock at Oakland Naval Shipyard for Temporary repairs after being hit by lightning off Point Conception during a stormy night; she finally got back into commission on December 1st 1893 under Rear Admiral George Fenton Woodruff commanding USN detached Squadron 5 which includedUSS Constitution herself squadron Chief William Tatham Gault aboard her Flagship Stateroom Number 2A in order to have him available should something happen to either Flag Officer Gault or Rear Admiral Woodruff while they were ashore at Fort Mason Marina undergoing repair work on their flagship!

In 1863, it became a post office with ZIP code 93734 and later was reincorporated as a city in 1907. The name "Ripon" comes from Spanish "ripar", meaning to turn or run into (water). The original mission church and school were destroyed by fire in 1875 but were rebuilt nearby and remain today as two separate buildings: The Mission Catholic School Museum and Historic Site and the Mission Basilica Church Complex. The City of Ripon lost its charter status on July 1, 1966 because it did not make enough financial contributions to state government coffers despite having an approved economic plan that included job creation initiatives such as an agricultural industry research center; a library; new housing developments for low-income residents; expanded public services such as parks and recreation;and increased infrastructure spending totaling over $200 million dollars during its five years of operation. However, with support from then Mayor Arturo Rubio, local citizens campaigned successfully to have their city reinstated under the newly created Metropolitan City Law which took effect on January 1, 1970. In 1992 voters repealed Proposition 209 which led to decline in tax collections statewide followed by loss of jobs due to outsourcing by large companies including Unisys Inc., Intel Corporation, Lockheed Martin Missile Systems Company, Dow Chemical Company etc.; however this didn't lead to any significant social unrest or protests against city governance - instead many residents chose to move away citing unsatisfactory conditions inside their former home while others found new opportunities outside of Municipal limits

Fremont and his party as they traveled through what is now San Joaquin County for their exploration of the region. The name "Ripon" likely originated from an Indian word meaning "town on a rise." A post office was established at Ripon in 1850, and a store and hotel were built soon thereafter. By 1854, there were nine citizens living at Ripon. In 1861, violence broke out in nearby Stockton over land issues between farmers and squatters; settlers in Ripon quickly sided with Stockton residents over their own kinfolk. This event marked the beginning of what would become known as the Stockton Rebellion. In 1865, after years of peaceful negotiation between both sides, a peace agreement was reached that recognized Native American rights to certain portions of San Joaquin Valley property. During World War II, Ripon played an important role as one of several airfields used by American forces during The war effort; it also served as headquarters for National Guard troops stationed throughout western California during that time period. After The war ended, many businesses closed down due to hard times and relocation difficulties within postwar America; however, some new businesses slowly began to grow around Ripon while others failed due to geographic isolationism or environmental problems (such as water usage). With suburban growth moving into its outskirts during the late 20th century and into recent decades%, there has been significant redevelopment taking place around Ripon including construction of new schools (including Ripon High School), hospitals (including Regional Medical Center), stores/restaurants/, housing developments ( including One House Place Apartments), professional sports teams (the riponside Lakers play their home games at Anaheim Stadium), agricultural areas such as ranches/swamps etc., etc., making it one of most rapidly growing communities in central California outside Of Pasadena or Sacramento!
