Coffee has been enjoyed by humans for over 3000 years. One of the earliest references to coffee is from a tributary of the Mississippi River, where beans were grown and trade took place. In 1536, Spanish explorers discovered Mexico City and its rich resources that led to the first European attempt to find coffee in North America. The Portuguese also began trading with Mexico and Central America, which resulted in their discovery of new coffee bean growing areas. In 1795, Dutch explorer Hendrick Hudson sailed into what is now California and named it New Netherland after his discovery of Java Sea. He brought back valuable plants and animals with him when he reached San Francisco Bay in 1797. Coffee was not until 18th century that it became popularized as an intoxicating beverage in Europe. The first commercial plantations were established in South Africa by Captain James Cook during his third voyage (1793-1796) on HMS Beagle. The company Kapp Brothers started brewing coffee at Rahway, NJ on January 26, 1847. On November 3rd that year, United States First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln tasted cup of Joe for the first time at Ford’s Theatre while attending a performance of Richard III.. Two weeks later she wrote her famous letter recognizing American Cupid as being “the most perfect brew I ever tasted” On December 5th 1847 John Dankworth founded Jardin Coffee House & Cafe at 4teenth and Mission Streets in downtown San Francisco together with partners George Coleman & Solomon Goldschmidt who had bought a share from Kapp Brothers two months earlier In 1870 alone there were over seventeen cafes operating throughout the city including eight near Market Street . Riverbank is a city located in Kern County, California. The population was 25,895 at the 2010 census. Riverbank is part of the Claremont–Salinas–Monterrey, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is bordered by Livermore to the south and east, Antioch to the north, and Porterville to the west. The first permanent settler in what would become Riverbank was George Aitken in 1868. Aitken had come from Scotland with his family and landed on Rancho Rinconada near Antelope Valley in 1867. He named his land Rumora after his father's home country of Scotland. By 1870, he had purchased additional acreage and began trading goods with Mexican traders living along Route 66. In 1871 he married Maria de la Cruz and they started a small farmstead called Rinconada Creek Rancho de las Guadalupe that remained in operation until 1912 when it was sold to Harry Fenton for $3,000 cash plus 10 percent of any future profits generated thereon. In 1872), James Waddell arrived at Rancho Las Palmas which included much of what would be Riverbank within its boundaries as well as parts of Livermore and Antioch Counties east of Fresno Street (now Westpark Drive). Waddell founded Angeles National Forest on some 640 acres (247 hectares) including today's portions of Riverside City Park, East Riverside Municipal Airport/Southwest Regional Transportation District Station (formerly Friars Road Airport), Brush Canyon Recreation Area northeast of Interstate 5 about 12 miles (19 km) southeast of downtown Riverside; all were later absorbed into Angeles National Forest).Waddell also founded Waterbury Rusk Colony about two miles northwest of present-day Riverbank on what is now Donnybrook Road between Black Rock Boulevard/Donnybrook Avenue and Spring Valley Road/Mountain View Avenue The town site chosen for Riverbank by surveyors under Contract No.: JF4183 dated 9 Nov 1889 has been identified as Site B-921411 which covers an area bounded by North First Street (the present day location north side thereof), East Second Street (south side thereof), South Third Street (west side thereof), Main Street (east side thereof) and South Fourth Street; now known as Brush Canyon Recreation Area southeast of Interstate 5 just beyond where I-5 crosses Donnybrook Road just before intersecting Topanga Boulevard "A map dated 1899 depicting Lots Nos: 1-9 & Not shown are those now belonging to Brush Canyon Recreation Area south adjacentto Interstate 5" riverbankscalifornia

Riverbank is a small town located in Kern County, California. It was established in 1873, after the Gold Rush. The community was named for the river that flows through it, the Río Blanco. Riverbank is a bedroom community for Los Angeles and nearby cities. The first settlers of Riverbank were postmasters from Los Angeles who arrived in 1872. In 1874, the first school was built in Riverbank and classes were held until 1889 when it became a mercantile establishment known as The General Store. In 1910, the first church was built and services were continued at The General Store until 1916 when it burned down. The second church was erected in 1928 and services continue to this day at St Andrews Episcopal Church which is also home to Riverbank's only grocery store which opened on May 1st 1915 In 1933, Highway 101 was constructed through Riverbank and the population swelled by increased traffic between L.A., Orange County and Kern County In 1944, during World War II, many people fled Nazi concentration camps near Bremen because of fear of being sent back there On October 10th 1951 Hurricane Vera made landfall along California's Central Coast; within minutes of hitting land most homes or businesses had already been destroyed including The General Store where Mayor John Fenton addressed residents after evacuating his family inland The damage done to various businesses throughout the town amounted to over $3 million dollars which still affects local economy today Riverbank has seen much economic growth over the years with development taking place on both sides of Highway 101 including a new hospital (2005) as well as an adjacent shopping center now housing numerous high-end stores .'
The Riverbank area was first settled by the Tongva people in the early 1800s. They built their villages on high ground overlooking the Sacramento River. The first white man to visit this area was Captain John C. Fremont, who explored and mapped the California Gold Rush in 1848. He named the river after himself, which helped start a long-standing memory of him here. The town of Sacramento began to grow up around the riverbanks in the 1870s, and by 1907 it had become one of America's most important commercial areas. The city's growth led to increased development along both banks of the river, and over time, many interesting buildings and streets were born here including Haight Street (now San Francisco Street), Broadway (now Market Street), and Battery Park City (now New York Avenue). In recent years, however, some of Sacramento's most prominent landmarks have been lost or vandalized - such as Alameda County Courthouse and State Capitol - making it an especially vulnerable location forgentrification. In spite of these challenges, though, Riverbank is still home to a vibrant community that enjoys a rich history dating back more than 200 years.
