Gourmet Coffee History in Riverbank, California began with the first coffee shop on Market Street in Riverbank in 1887. The business was started by Julius Rosenwald, who had moved to Riverbank from New York City. He opened the first café in what is now the old post office building on Commercial Street. In 1912, Rosenwald and his son Julius Jr. opened a second café, which became known as Julius Rosenwald’s Café II because of its original location next to the Second Avenue Subway station. The family operated their businesses until 1919 when they sold them to Harry Jaffe and his brother-in-law Arthur Goldberg for $1 million. They renamed their business Grosse Pointe Coffee Company and continued to operate it under that name until 1968 when it merged with Joe’s Coffee Company. The company acquired other businesses including Cafe Flora (now a museum) on Magnolia Boulevard in 1962, Café DonatellO (now closed) on State Street in 1967 and finallyTable Mountain Coffee Co., Inc., located at 575 Main Street in Riverbank in 1978. During its time as Grosse Pointe Coffee Company, the company produced some of the world's most famous coffee products such as Kahlúa, Lenox Hill Oatmeal Stout and Roastmaster Breakfast Blend Butterscotch Spice Brownies . It also developed a reputation for being an excellent roaster of high quality beans that were roasted fresh each day at its two cafés. In 1988, Grosse Pointe Coffee Company merged with Dutch Bros.' Java Coffeeshop chain which made it one of the largest coffee companies ever formed within the United States before folding in 2001 amidst financial troubles. In recent years there has been renewed interest among coffee enthusiasts towardsRiverbank's long history with coffee production dating back to 1887 – a heritage that can be enjoyed today through events like special tastings given at restaurants such as Julius Rosenwald's Café II or Table Mountain Coffee Co., Inc..

Riverbank is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Riverbank" came from the nearby riverbank which had been used for cattle and sheep pastures since before 1849. In 1875, J.P. Morgan bought land east of Riverbank and founded Morgan's Bank there. The bank continued to grow until it merged with First Interstate Bank in 1988. Today, Riverbank is a largely residential community with several businesses located on Main Street including a post office and restaurant/bar called The Railroad Café & Grill which has been open since 1925. The area around Riverbank was once agricultural because of its location near the headwaters of the Kern River and Mono Lake This included cornfields, cotton fields, orchards, dairy farms and citrus orchard operations that continue to be operating today under different names such as Citrus Valley Farms LLC., Orchards Inc., etc.. Many of these operations were acquired by larger companies over time including Unocal Corporation who purchased many acres in 1982 and re-named it Unocal Ranch after their oil company merger that year; Chevron Corporation who acquired much of what remains of Orchards Inc.; PBF Energy Corporation who took over many more acres between 2002-2008 when they built their largest natural gas storage field in history; Wells Fargo who acquired large tracts adjacent to Unocal Ranch between 2007-2013 when they completed construction on their largest project ever - an $23 million water pipeline replacement project called Northridge Pipeline Expansion;and finally Southern CoFargo Company who took over most acreage adjacent to Wells Fargo across from Barstow Airport)
