The Riverbank Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1912 by a group of men who were interested in shooting sports. They soon realized that they would need a place to shoot, so they set up shop on the banks of the San Joaquin River. The club quickly became successful and decided to make their own firearms. In 1914, they started selling handguns, rifles, shotguns and ammunition. They also began hosting annual NRA-sanctioned rifle tournaments. In 1922, the club purchased their first rifle and continued to grow through donations from members and sponsors. By 1926, the club had acquired its ownatial building on San Pablo Avenue in Riverbank. They continue to operate out of this location until today. Today, Riverbank Rifle & Pistol Club is one of the most popular shooting clubs in California with over 2200 member dues-paying members covering all aspects of NRA membership including pistol courses as well as long range target shooting events for all ages and levels of experience (beginners through advanced shooters). Their mission is to promote ShootingSportsmanship through instruction, competition and fun!

Tourism has also become an important aspect of local economy as visitors come for both natural beauty (the Presidio National Park can be seen from most of town) as well as Visitacion Valley wineries located near downtown which offer wine tastings as well as tours or stopovers on their vineyards during cruises downriver.
