Riverside, California is a city in Riverside County, California. The population was 109,827 at the 2010 census. It is the 9th most populous city in San Bernardino County and the 7th most populous city in Orange County. The first permanent settlement in what is now Riverside County was made by farmers on land grants from Governor Juan Alvarado of Mexico on January 3, 1824. A small town called Rio Linda grew up near this original settlement while other communities were founded around it over time including Ontario (now known as Anaheim), Banning and Murrieta. On October 15, 1869, General Mariano Castro arrived with his division of Mexican troops to relieve American forces besieged at Fort Sill after a siege of several weeks. The town of Corona soon became part of the new Mexican region of Southern California. On November 30, 1887, voters passed an ordinance creating a municipio – or village – for all those living within its boundaries excepteda Rancho San Bernardino which then lay outside the municipal limits. This act provided for zoning and building regulations that remain largely unchanged to this day. On February 14, 1888 US Senator Donald Wickersham proposed legislation providing for annexation by Riverside into Los Angeles county; however this proposal was vetoed by Governor John Cranch). In 1912–13 an attempt was made to rename Riverside “National City” but this failed due to lack of support from local officials. In 1931–32 revisions were made to the Municipal Code which designated downtown as the principal business district while eastern neighborhoods were given more limited development rights. In 1942 amendments were made granting racial segregation preferences in public housing developments operated by city government; these laws were repealed after World War II ended without any further action being taken towards their repeal.. It wasn’t until 1968 when then Mayor Art Agnos announced plans to make downtown Riverside one of America’s most attractive shopping areas with major retailers such as Sears and JCPenney opening shop there during that year’s remodeling campaign overseen by Mayor Ronald Reagan who also helped lead efforts throughout later years to keep downtown active with events like art shows and festivals throughout winter months

The USAF gave various types of gifts over the years. In 1963, the USAF gifted a Boeing 707 jet to Indonesia. This was followed in 1965 by the gift of four McDonnell Douglas DC-9s to Southeast Asia. In 1966, the USAF gifted two Lockheed L-4A Sentries to Namibia. The following year, the USAF gave three Cessna 402 Skymasters to Ghana as part of a goodwill gift program. Additionally, in 1969, an F-105D fighter jet was given as a gift to South Vietnam. In 1970, two McDonnell Douglas MD-81 Starfighters were given as gifts to Thailand and Laos. In 1971, a Lockheed Martin P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft was given as a gift to Colombia. Lastly, in 1973 it was announced that the USAF would give three Beechcraft BT-16B Super Hornets as gifts for use by Chilean Air Force units during Operation Condor (the anti-terrorist campaign).

The town of Riverside began to form soon after, with citizens settling in areas such as Mission Park and Fresh Creek. By 1870, Riverside had grown so large that it decided to secede from California and become an independent republic under President Abraham Lincoln. It only lasted for a few years before being annexed by California again. Today, Riverside is one of Northern California's most economically prospering cities with a population over 100,000 residents. Its largest business district is located in downtown where businesses include banks and other financial institutions as well as retail stores and restaurants. Downtown also contains many cultural attractions including art galleries and theaters as well asa number of parks providing plenty of green space for recreation.
