The National Guard of Riverside is a unit of the United States military that was activated on November 9, 1916. The first sergeant major of the Riverside National Guard was Major John Fenton. At its inception, it consisted of only men from San Bernardino County and Orange County. In 1917, the National Guard was reorganized into a battalion under command of an lieutenant colonel and became an infantry regiment with three battalions in 1919. In 1923, it was renamed as the Riverside Infantry Regiment and then again in 1926 as the California Infantry Regiment (Riverside). In 1940, the regiment became part of The United States Army Forces Europe when World War II began. It remained in this role until 1945 when it returned to peacetime status.

The National Guard of Riverside County was organized on November 7, 1912. It was the first local militia in California and its members were called the "Riverside Guards." The present-day Riverside National Guard has been headquartered at Campo Verde since 1951.
Riverside, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 66,651 at the 2010 census. Riverside is the most populous city in Orange County and its second-largest city after Los Angeles. It is also the most populous city in San Diego County and fourth-largest city in both counties. The first people to set foot on what is now Riverside were the Puebloans who arrived from Mexico about 1602. They built Rivera Castle near present-day downtown Riverside and other smaller settlements including Rancho Encinal de la Paloma (now part of La Jolla) between 1685 and 1751. The area that would become Riverside was then part of Alta California as part of Mexican territory under Governor Manuel Nieto during 1836–1841. Anglo settlers began arriving with horses and mules around 1845, when they bought land east of Mission Trails Road for $5 an acre ($10 per square mile). By 1860, nearly all of eastern Riverside had been developed as farms or ranches by Americansenchanceous Californians seeking easy access to the Central Valley via Stagecoach Road/the Transcontinental Railroad. In 1871, following completion of the railroad through central San Bernardino County and consequent reductions in transportation costs, a group of businessmen known as the "Riverside consortium" organized a campaign to purchase 1,200 acres (500 hectares) east of Mission Trails Road for development into what would become Riverside proper; this included much of what is now eastern Riverside City streets such as Elmira Avenue and routingstemmed from it today when First National Bank moved its main campus from west Covina to east Claremont Streets just south of State Route 190 in 1907. At first called Railway Park because railroad tracks ran through it at various points including engine houses adjacent to City Hall), growth slowed as developers found other ways to get their products to market faster than by trucking them overland from central cities such as Los Angeles or Sacramento via Stagecoach Road/the Transcontinental Railroad; however, by 1920 there were over 100 businesses located on Market Street within one blocks of City Hall while streetcar service continued until 1948 making Riverwalk an important commercial thoroughfare even before statehood made it an incorporated town subjectto local control rather than statewide regulation like other towns in San Bernardino County which functioned more like villages governed by chiefs with no elected officials whatsoever aside from police protection duties inside their village limits only During World War II many families left Southern California for North America due to food shortages caused by air raids; however most returned home during 1945–1946 when war ended and prices for goods increased again throughout Southern California combined with new technology developments permitting mass production without having to go through intermediate sources e.g., textiles were produced cheaply enough using automated looms at TWA’s Terminal 5 plant northeastward across Pomona Boulevard from downtown LA which opened in 1942) so jobs became available once again despite low wages locally since many manufacturing companies closed down during the Great Recession starting around 2007 giving rise(?)to concerns about joblessness& foreclosures among veterans returning home after deployments overseas In 2013–2014 several business groups announced plans aztackling high rents& gentrification& displacementof longtime residentsonthe Golden State Line Rail transit project rail lines running parallelontoIvar Sogaard Rd & Campanile Ave thru Oceanside unincorporated areas bordering Corona del Mar

Riverside is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 68,815 at the 2010 census and it is the seventh-largest city in Los Angeles County. Riverside was incorporated on December 14, 1892 as a town and became an independent city on January 1, 1907. Riverside's economy is based mainly on agriculture, manufacturing, services and tourism. The city has a large international airport serving both domestic and international flights. The early history of the area that would become Riverside can be traced back to what is now Antelope Valley. In 1821 Spanish traders discoveredajaxite coal deposits near present-day Riverside while exploring for new land north of Menlo Park in Southern California. Mining operations began soon after and produced significant quantities of coal which helped finance Mission San Gabriel Arcángel's construction in 1836. The discovery of oil in nearby Kern County during World War II changed everything for Riverside when it became apparent that this could be the key to sustaining local businesses during wartime production shortages caused by the war effort. Oil rigs were erected throughout Northern California during WWII due to these discoveries - one such rig was built just outside of Riverside itself off 5th Street between Highland Avenue and State Route 66 (now US 95). In 1964–1965, two years before then Mayor Oscar De la Torre called for Measure M (the first comprehensive water supply plan ever prepared for Los Angeles), voters passed a bond issue debarring development within half mile (800 feet) of any public water main untilipple tests had been completed demonstrating lack of need for such distance from sources thereof; this measure was designed to keep white flight from rapidly expanding south into developing areas adjacent to black inner cities like Compton/South Gate/Pico Rivera.) This adage "A River Runs Through It" applied equally well to South Pasadena & Carson City which comprised much of eastern Orange County east of Interstate 15 & northwest of downtown LA
