In the early 1920s, Rocklin was a small town in the San Joaquin Valley. The air force Base here played an important role in American aviation and Rocklin was home to one of the first airfields in America. In 1942, during World War II, Rocklin became integral in the development of jet aircraft and today it is known as a center for aeronautical research. The history of gift giving by the Air Force began with donations of equipment from civilian members of the military. From 1948-1975, RAF Kirtlington England donated over 1,200 items including vehicles and fighter jets to McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company at Rocklin Airport. With more than $24 million given from civilians and military members since then, USAF gift history remains reflective of our community’s generosity and supportive relationship with our service member brothers and sisters. Today, USAF BaseRocklin includes nearly 2,000 employees who support strategic missions across six agencies-the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Missile Defense Agency (MDA), Department of Energy (DOE), California National Guard (CNGA), and Civilian Services Administration (CSA) – all making contributions to American society through their work.
