The history of the U.S. Air Force deployed gift program began in Rosemead, California in 1951 when the United States Air Force stationed a detachment at Los Angeles Airport to accept gifts from citizens and businesses. The gift program continued to grow throughout the years with detachments being stationed at other major American cities such as Washington D.C., New York City, Miami Beach and Fort Worth, Texas. In 1993, it was renamed the Deployed Gift Program and continues to this day accepting Gifts from citizens all over the United States. The deployment gift program is an important part of the U.S. military culture and helps keep our country connected with its citizens abroad while also giving back to society by providing necessary supplies and services to our military members stationed overseas. The Gifts that are given through the Deployed Gift Program help support many different causes including education, infrastructure development, breast cancer research and more. Rosemead, California is a small town located in Inyo County, California. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego metropolitan area. The citrus industry started in this area in the early 1900s and by the 1940s, Rosemead had a post office, a store and two churches. The first home built in Rosemead was an adobe building on State Route 97 which served as a school for children until 1913 when it became a community center with an auditorium and gymnasium. In 1945, work began on what would become the world's first air-conditioned shopping mall called "The Mall". With its large shopping areas, restaurants and public services including water and sewer systems, The Mall quickly became one of Southern California's most popular tourist destinations. It continued to grow through the 1960s when it opened its doors to vehicular traffic and increased development around it. However by 1970 only 15% of shoppers were inside the mall while 85% accessed it from outside via streets or open malls nearby. In 1978 The Mall closed its doors permanently after sustaining significant fire damage caused by arsonists during renovations that year; however due to redevelopment that occurred around it over the years many people erroneously believe that The Mall actually reopened as an enclosed mall following this event. In reality though much of what was original within The Mall (the buildings themselves) remain extant as part of new development nearby including such brands as Macy's Department Store and JCPenney which completed their own expansions within minutes of each other across First Street/Eagle Rock Boulevard just south of Interstate 5 between Redondo Beach Boulevard and North Park Drive in Echo Park; creating one massive retail complex housing more than 140 stores under one roof! Later that year developer Lennar Corporation erected another massive shopping complex known today as "Lennar Place" adjacent to "The Mall". This complex included numerous art galleries (including MoMA), high end boutiques (including Saks Fifth Avenue) along with restaurants like Benares Mediterranean Grill & Cafe and Heinemann Publishers chain bookstore - all housed within newly constructed glass buildings overlooking First Street/Eagle Rock Boulevard!
The United States Armed Forces have a long and proud history of deploying gifts to the people of other countries. One of the most well-known deployments is the Air Force deployment of gift parcels to members of the Iraqi Freedom Task Force during Operation Neptune’s Spear in 2003. These gift parcels were filled with food, ammunition, and other supplies for the troops fighting in Iraq. The generosity and support shown by the USAF was appreciated by all who received them. Another famous air force deployment isOperation Christmas Tree in 2005. This was an attempt to give back to citizens of North Korea some much needed holiday cheer. Over 1,500 individuals from all over America turned out to help deliver presents to North Korean residents onChristmas Eve. The gesture was very touching and brought smiles to many faces. In 1951, the USAF deployed the gift of an F-86 Sabre jet fighter to air force personnel stationed at RAF Odessa in Ukraine. The aircraft was donated by Lockheed Aircraft Company and arrived with a letter from then-President Harry S. Truman reading "This gift will mean a great deal to your Air Force."
Rosemead is a small town located in the Inland Empire of California, about 25 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. It was founded in 1879 by George Rosemead and his wife Emma Clements. The Rosemeads were among the early settlers on what is now Orange County, and their home still stands. Lately, Rosemead has been seeing more attention as a tourist destination for its picturesque Route 66 corridor and historical buildings such as the old courthouse (now the Southern California Museum of Art) and Mrs. Roseade's grocery store. The town started out as just a few scattered farms clustered around a creek that ran through it. By 1907, there were over 100 residents living in what is now Redondo Beach and Hawthorne Heights areas of Rosemead Township alone. Most people here engaged in farming or ranching activities; some also built homes or businesses near their residences to take advantage of local resources. Although most residents lived close to each other, social life was not always easy or congenial due to different dialects spoken within the community and differences in religious beliefs which sometimes led to tense confrontations between groups of people from different faiths. Nonetheless, despite these challenges, many Roseseeds made names for themselves during their lifetimes including George Roussel who became one of Pasadena's first mayors before moving on to found Hollywood studios Hayer-Wright Productions (later merged with 20th Century Fox) and Regal Pictures while serving as its president from 1928-1930; Lloyd Garrison who cofounded ABC Radio network before becoming Ulysses S Grant Wood's personal physician after losing an arm at Gettysburg where he served as colonel; Maurice Sendak whose brand new children's book "The Little House on the Prairie" was published by Houghton Mifflin Company in 1959 but did not make any money until 1984 when it was reprinted by Random House under ISBN 978-0-316-03412-5; Roy Rogers who starred in scores of TV shows beginning with "Cheyenne" (1935) for $1 per week then increased fees starting at $25 per episode up until 1957 when he became a national star with his weekly show "Rodeo Drive"; Alice Bailey - popular spiritual teacher who had a major impact on U2 frontman Bon Iver during his time working with her private school called Acolyte School in Denver Colorado
