The original plat map of Rosemead was created by George Sibley and it covered a total area of about six acres. The first post office in Rosemead was established on February 15, 1888. The community had a population of just 10 people when it incorporation as a town on December 6, 1887. At the time, the town was named after a small opening within Roscoe Hill that featured pink roses. There were only two schools in Rosemead at the time of its incorporation: one for girls and one for boys. In 1889, the town installed an electricity plant to provide power to its residents which increased their population from 10 to 30 people. However, due to high costs associated with running this facility, the town could not keep up with budget demands and closed down in 1890. In 1897-98, the Town Board erected a new school building which served as both schools until 1925 when both buildings were replaced with one large building which still serves as both schools today!
