Rosemead is a small town in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Angeles National Forest. The first Europeans to visit what is now Rosemead were two Frenchmen, Pierre-Simon LaFontaine andJacques Marquette, on their way from Sonoma Valley to explore the Owens Valley in 1827. They named it after a rose they found near where they were staying. LaFontaine also gave rise to the legend that " wherever roses grow, there malaria will also grow." In 1868, Anna Maria Lewis founded a post office in Rosemead with her husband John Lewis because they wanted to be sure no one would send mail through Sutter's Fort because of the warring Apache and Mexicans who lived there then. The post office served as an important transportation hub for settlers moving westward during the California Gold Rush and afterward became an important cultural center for Roscommon Township. Rosemead experienced its first tornado on November 11, 1966 when severe thunderstorms produced winds up to 100 mph (160 km/h) that damaged or destroyed more than 20 homes and businesses in downtown Roscommon Township before ending about 15 miles (24 km) northwest of town near Willow Creek Reservoir. No injuries were reported but some power lines were broken and several trees were downed across much of downtown Roscommon Township which blocked streets for hours while crews worked to rebuild parts of the community using temporary structures made from materials available at home or local hardware stores. In 1969 when Interstate 15 was constructed parallel to US 95 between Yuma and Florence Junction it bypassed Rosemead entirely making it difficult for motorists heading southbound on I-15 to get access northbound at any point within city limits without crossing I-95 yards wide; this prompted Mayor Al Arbour (D) and his City Council colleagues Tom Wright (D), Dick Renteria (R), Don Kappos (D), Frank Ziegler (R), Bob Bowersnagle (I), Dan McCoy Jr.(I) to form a citizens' committee chaired by Arbour called "The highway committee" which began studying ways possible Beaufort Street connecting I-15 eastbound with US 95 westbound could be widened so traffic entering/exiting town could be improved without disrupting public use such as groceries shopping etc., eventually resulting in funding being received from both state government via Caltrans tow truck operators operating along I-15 lanes during Separation Day ceremonies marking final completion of freeway project just prior to Statewide Election held on November 3rd .

Rosemead is a small town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 8,584 at the 2000 census. It is located on the south side of Richmond Avenue, about 5 miles (8 km) east of San Francisco and 10 miles (16 km) north of Oakland. The town was platted in 1887 by John Cranch as part of the Beaumont Ranch. Rosemead post office opened in 1889. Its name derives from "ROSE" - a badge owned by one of its founders - and "MEAD", which was the original place name for Richmond Avenue. From 1907 to 1916, Rosemead served as headquarters for the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA). In 1916, it became the homebase for American Motors Corporation's new Chevrolet factory; that year also marked the start of organized labor in Contra Costa County. In 1984, General Motors announced plans to close its Oakville Assembly Plant and move production to China; however, because GM had invested heavily in local towns and communities throughout his career—including Rosemead—John DeLorean chose not to leave his namesake plant but instead built a museum within it called "DELOREAN MUSEUM". Since then Rosemead has seen some resurgence with an active Chamber of Commerce and many new businesses popping up around town including a music store/theater/café called The Catalyst & The Beatitudes, grocery stores like Safeway and Krogernextdoor along with several restaurants including Mexicali Blues Mexican Grill & Cantina and KC's BBQ Pit BBQ restaurant which serves pulled pork sandwiches made from Texas data-line brisket.
Rosemead is located in the San Gabriel Valley on a large tract of land that was given to the town by John Sutter, founder of the city of Pasadena. The town was founded in 1879 and named for Rosa Mexicana, who donated 4 acres (1 hectare) of her farmland to the town. The first post office in Rosemead opened in 1881. The population of Rosemead grew rapidly after it was established, reaching 100 residents by 1890. In 1915, the Rosemead School District was formed and Rosemead became one of its districts. In 1916, the United States Postal Service began delivering mail from a new station at Eldridge Drive and Vine Street. This location made it convenient for residents to get their mail without having to go out into downtown Pasadena or leave their car parked on Eldridge Drive. In 1955, two shopping centers were built in the area: The Crestway Shopping Center on El Sobrante Boulevard and The Glen Ellen Shopping Center on Glen Ellen Road. These shopping centers helped give rise to what is now known as Downtown Pasadena's business district. Downtown Pasadena's growth continued through the years and by 1966 it had become an independent city with its own government. In that year, Mayor Harry Helms dedicated a new park in Westwood called Ridgemont Park which served as an important meeting place for city officials and businesses alike during periodic meetings held at Ridgemont Park.
