A total of 3,500 men were initially mobilized for service in the state. The Guard was later increased to 10,000 men and became a fullyfledged state militia under the command of the Governor. In 1951, the National Guard was reorganized as an emergency organization and its members were prohibited from engaging in any political activities or participating in any manner in the state's Democratic or Republican primaries. Rosemead is a small town in San Bernardino County, California. It is located on the banks of the Los Angeles River, about 10 miles (16 km) east of downtown LA. The population was 8,784 at the 2010 census. The area that now Rosemead was first settled by Europeans in 1847 and named for English rose bushes. The name came from two sources: one said "Roses are red because they grow near the equator," while another said "the meadow where I lived were covered with roses." In 1853, Jesse James built a cabin here and started to trade goods with the local Indian people. In 1855, he married Anna Maria Ladd and this led to some trading between Rosemead and San Bernardino County as well as other surrounding areas. On January 1, 1861, Pasadena became part of California when it was annexed by Los Angeles county and Rosemead became its capital city. There were no schools here until 1865 when a school board was formed which used land donated by Mrs. Sarah Jourdan Jones ( sister-in-law of Mayor Richard Jourdan). In 1870s there were only 6 residents in Roseseed including 4 men who farmed crops and raised livestock; these people later moved to Brush Valley or Redlands which had more businesses during that time period due to better transportation options available nearby The first post office opened in Roseseed on March 3rd 1865 named for Julius Caesar Meigs who served as Postmaster at that location for many years prior . On December 15th 1915 an earthquake struck southern California killing over 50 people followed by a fire that destroyed most of town including all buildings except one store still standing today . By 1923 there were only 10 residents living in Roseseed out of a total population of 180 in the entire county . Development continued apace however with construction of new roads, churches and other infrastructure throughout those years leading to what is now known as “the lost decade” for Roseseed development

In 1911, Rosemead became an incorporated city with a population of 1,500 people. It consolidated with other cities in 1951 to form Sacramento County. In 1862, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), General Ulysses S. Grant's army invaded California from the south and burned Rosemead along with most of neighboring towns on December 17th; this event is generally considered to be the beginning of the end of the gold Rush era in California. Afterward, many miners returned to California while others left for new opportunities elsewhere in America or Europe. However, some continue to live here today as retirees or tourists looking for unique experiences within easy access to major metropolitan areas around Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area
