Since the early days of the United States Air Force, airmen have enjoyed a special connection to their service. From giving back to society with donations and Grants, to engaging in community Service projects, Air Force members have always had something to give back to those around them. One of the most iconic and well-known gifts given by USAF Members is their air force gift history. This unique series of photos and videos captures the momentous moments that defined Air Force Membership; from joining up to serving our country, through military service and home life. The air force gift history has been a source of pride for many USAF members who have shared their stories online or in person over the years. The aircrafts used in these photos range from vintage planes such as an F4U Corsair or P-38 Lightning, to more recent models like an A-10 Thunderbolt II Warthog or AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter. However, no matter what model is being photographed, all are united by one common goal - flying for their country! It truly is a testament to theAir Force’s culture that these types of events still occur today!

In 1945, the United States Air Force was formed and the first gift from the USAF to Roseville was a F-4 Phantom II jet fighter aircraft. TheAAF donated this jet fighter to the city of Roseville in 1946 as part of its program to provide military assistance to cities in need. The city continued to use the jet fighter until it was replaced by the F-15 Eagle in 1993.
Roseville is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 73,569 at the 2010 census. The name "Rosary" comes from a small creek that runs through the city and provides drinking water for many homes. In 1849, prospectors named Robert Hargrave and George Hearst located a claim on the creek. They named their new settlement after St. Rose of Lima, an Italian Catholic saint who had helped them find gold in California during the Gold Rush of 1848. The community began as a small ranch called Grants Ranch near what is now Interstate 80 and State Route 35a (now I-80/I-580). It grew rapidly when railroads arrived in the early 1860s, and by 1870 Rosary had become one of the largest towns in Contra Costa County. By 1899 it had outgrown its original boundaries to include portions of Walnut Creek and Danville; both settlements continued to decline until they were merged into Rosary in 1935. Today, Rosary remains an agricultural town with a strong contingent of blue collar workers who have taken advantage of new technologies like hydraulic fracturing (fracking) to produce natural gas reserves near its downtown core. The downtown area has seen significant redevelopment over the past few years including several high-rise buildings completed around Town Lake which overlooks much of downtown Rosary and offers excellent views of Mill Valley across Interstate 680
When the United States Air Force was formed in 1947, it included a small but committed group of young officers and airmen who wanted to make a difference. The first step was setting up an organization to manage the fledgling Air Force. This started out as the Aeronautics and Space Branch, later renamed the Air Forces Specialty Commands. The AFSC had two main goals: To provide military support for space exploration initiatives and to train airmen for service in other branches of the armed services. In 1952, AFSC organized two detachments, one stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio and another at Langley AFB in Virginia, which would become operational flying training wings. With these organizational changes came new responsibilities for AFSC’s members, some of whom were eager to contribute their skills and knowledge to advancing airpower interests abroad while others hesitated until they saw how things worked at home. In 1962, General Curtis LeMay directed USAF commanders to establish bombing forces capable of hitting targets anywhere in the world within 24 hours with missiles that could be launched from any location on Earth (this became known as “the ability of anyplace” or “AQP”). The next year saw AFSC reorganize into what is now known as Directorate-General History & Heritage (DGHH), responsible for managing all history related to USAF activity both past and present. Since its inception, DGHH has been responsible for stewardship of more than 100 million records dating back to World War II through programs such as Project MUSE (Museum on American Skies) and Defense Archives Records Management Program/Historical Research Division housed at Offutt AFB near Omaha Nebraska. These records include photos, films, documents, uniforms etc., which offer insights into USAF operations during peacetime and wartime periods not only during America’s heyday but also since Operation Desert Storm when Saddam Hussein captured Kuwait!
