Roseville is a city in Sacramento County, California, United States. The population was 63,898 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Sacramento County after Rancho Cordova. The name of the town originates from a crossroads on the Cascades River where two wagon roads met. The community of Roseville was platted in 1856 by Captain James Wickersham and his brother-in-law Colonel Francis Bunnell. It grew rapidly due to gold mining in nearby Sutter counties and ranching by Nathaniel Purdy and others. In 1871, local citizens voted to incorporate as a city and it became one of California's first cities with an elected mayor and city council. During World War II, Roseville became an important military airbase for the United States Air Forces during the war against Japan. Over 1,500 American troops were stationed here between 1942 and 1945. After the war ended, many of these soldiers left to return home or started new lives elsewhere in California; however, some continued to live in Roseville until its closure in 1984. Today there are only a few remaining remnants of this wartime community including several churches which remain open while other structures have been demolished or converted into residences or businesses. Today, Roseville is known for its large garden industry which has helped make it one of the most prolific agricultural towns in Northern California; as well as its diverse cultural attractions such as museums and theaters that offer a wide range of exhibitions related to art history, mythology, sociology, anthropology etc., making it one of America's most unique cities when compared to other major metropolitan areas across North America

Roseville is a city in San Joaquin County, California. The population was 37,898 at the 2010 census. The name of the city comes from the rosebushes that grow abundantly in its area. Roseville is located on the banks of the Sacramento River and is just east of its confluence with the Merced River. The first people to live in what became Roseville were Native Americans who hunted and gathered plants near by for food. In 1851, when gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill, many men and boys from rural San Joaquin County set out to find it. They founded what would become Sacramento City on parts of land that now make up Roseville. The first post office in Roseville was established on January 1, 1852. The town site was chosen because it had a deep enough well to provide water for cattle and horses, as well as good access to transportation routes. By 1862, there were over 100 residents living in Roseville. Growth continued until 1865 when a drought caused most of the cotton fields around Sacramento to dry up; this led to increased manufacturing in nearby Stockton which required more workers than could be found in Roseville or elsewhere in San Joaquin County. In 1868, three men - Wm Halsey Jr., John Pemberton and George Yount - leased 3 acres (1 km2) of land northeast of present-day downtown from George Hearst for $10 per year without any right to vote or sell property until they developed it into an agricultural village called Hearst Ranch with 7 homes, a schoolhouse and storeroom. This village gradually grew into what is today known as Downtown RoseVILLE after some families moved into their homes between 1870-1881 while others built new houses starting about 1886-1887 using lumber available alongthe Embarcadero Freeway (now Interstate 80). One reason why development slowed down during this time may have been due to competition from developments farther south such as Stockton which had much greater prosperity at that time thanks largely to its location on several key riverside trade routes including those linking inland markets with ports on Bay Area coasts where goods could be shipped back home fresh or salt added before being sold abroad Additionally rich farmland west of Sacramento also became available due primarily to droughts caused by floods following earthquakes across Northern California which severed power lines causing widespread blackouts throughout most of Northern California
Roseville is located in the San Joaquin Valley on the banks of the Sacramento River. The city was founded in 1851 by Mormons and their families who had come overland from Nauvoo, Illinois. A Mexican-American war fought in 1856 led to Roseville's incorporation as a town. The city was named for General James H. Rose, an American general who served during the Mexican-American War and later became Provost Marshal of Sacramento County. The first post office was established in 1861, and the first store opened in 1865. In 1871, Roseville became part of Stockton when that city was founded by Mormon settlers following a boundary dispute with Roseville. The biggest development around this time came with cattle ranchers coming to town to raise beef for export. The early years were difficult for Roseville due to lack of water resources and competition from other cities in the valley. However, after some growth and development, the City Council built a park which still stands today - West Side Park (now called East Side Park). This park has been used as a recreational area for residents and businesses alike since it was first developed. Additionally, investments were made into public transportation which made village shopping possible outside of downtownroseville without having to go downriver or out on Highway 99
