In 1907 Interstate 5 was constructed through much of what is now Sacramento; downtown business districts were destroyed or harmed by I-5's construction while thousands of jobs were lost throughout the region. Governor Gray Davis announced on September 17, 2006 that his last day would be December 15th 2006 because he had been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer early stage that required chemotherapy treatments starting on October 22nd 2006 but did not have any other signs or symptoms until November 16th 2006 when they found out about his cancer diagnosis although he had been told about it several weeks earlier beforehand In order for him to extend his full term another year so that he could have served all 128 months instead of 64 months like set law requires but because there is no cure or effective treatment available there would have to be another special election held within 120 days following his death so this will not happen
