The California Coast Guard was established on September 16, 1861 as the Salinas lighthouse district. The first commanding officer of the Coast Guard was Rear Admiral George A. Brownell. In 1892, the Coast Guard Station at Salinas was designated as the Headquarters for Local District 5 and in 1907 it became Headquarters for Local District 21. On May 15, 1923, Headquarters for Local District 25 was moved from Salinas to Monterey. In 1935, Headquarters for all local districts were transferred to San Diego and on January 1, 1936 they were re-designated as the San Diego/Tijuana Sector of the California Coast Guard. In 1941, Headquarters for all local districts were again transferred to Salinas and on November 1 they were redesignated as Coastal Zone Command. On October 12, 1944 a new building was dedicated at Port Hueneme with funds raised by a patriotic dinner given in honor of Vice Admiral John Wickenheiser who had served during World War II as Commander-in-Chief of American Forces Europe. On July 6, 1945 an appropriation Act provided funds to purchase two patrol boats and two motorboats which would be used by Coastal Zone Command along with other assets purchased from various agencies including three fishing boats also donated by Governor Earl Warren . With this new equipment and personnel shore protection began operations off coast of Southern California although occasional skirmishes still occurred between commercial vessels and USCG personnel offshore

Salinas, California is a town in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. Salinas has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 4,000 years. The first Europeans to arrive in the area were Missionaries of Jesus Christ who founded Mission San Francisco de Asís on Rancho Rinconada in 1821. In 1848, the United States acquired ranches and other land east of the Santa Clara River from Mexico which then became part of Alameda County. With an increased focus on agriculture and industry during the late 19th century, Salinas grew into a small rural community with few storefronts or commercial areas until after World War II when some development occurred along Main Street that included new housing and businesses such as a bank and gas station. After slow growth during the 1960s through 1990s due to changing economic factors including suburbanization and technological advances, Salinas experienced rapid growth starting in 2000 as more people moved into the area following declines in job opportunities within Contra Costa County. They called it “Bárbara” meaning place where there is no water but they also knew it was located near Monterey Bay because they saw sailboats going back and forth between Monterey Bay and San Francisco Bay every day while ashore on their lands east of today’s south end of Lake Merritt. The Spanish arrived in 1776 AD under Captain José Joaquin de Mendoza y Costilla when they discovered this site while exploring northeast America for Spain. After landing here on July 25th 1776 aboard his ship La Conquista he named it El Norte after his goalposts north of Point Reyes National Park where he had landed earlier that year on Lapham Island about halfway between San Francisco Bay Bridgehead (now Pier 39)and Plymouth Rock (now Embarcadero). Thereafter El Norte became known throughout North America by this name because Spanish missionaries found several places with similar names but nothing like this junction leading inland from Monterey Peninsula—northwest from [the present day] Daly City –southwest from [the present day] Hayward –southwest from[the present day] Sausalito; so we have several places called North America: El Norte; Nuestra Señora del Carmen de la Concepción Roca; el Destino; Nueva España; Refugio Grande; Punta Arenas del Mar Negro...It should be noted that these missionary routes did not cross Long Beach Harbor although various maps show what appeared to be a busy crossing point back then! In 1848 ownership passed from Mexico to United States upon Mexican cession following Mexican victory over Ulysses S Grant at Buena Vista Creek following Partida Modificación which ended Mexican Independence War #1849-1850 aka American Civil War #4 beginning October 29th 1846 ending April 6th 1847 when General Antonio López de Santa Anna proclaimed himself Emperor Of All Mexico resulting in US occupation becoming forced annexation by US Empire March 9th 1850 creating State Of California thereby giving us our current borders: Contra Costa County —Alameda County—San Mateo County—Oakland County—Fremont County—Los Altos Hills—Salinas

Salinas, California is a town in the southernmost corner of Los Angeles County, California. It is located on the Salinas River and has a population of approximately 60,000 as of 2015. The name "Salinas" comes from Spanish missionaries who named it San Salvador (St. Salvator), after the patron saint of Spain. The Mission San Francisco de Asís was built in 1797 by Franciscan friars and served as the first missions in what would become California. In 1821, Rancho Santiago de la Selva was granted to José Cornelio Saenz, one of twenty-six pioneers who founded Rancho Santa Ana near Anaheim Hills in 1823. In 1849, citizens voted to incorporate as a town and Elna Hidalgo became its first mayor. The early years of Salinas were difficult because there were no rivers nearby to irrigate agriculture and many people had to travel long distances for water supplies. However, over time the community grew rich through its commerce with nearby cities and towns as well as its production of vegetables and fruits such as oranges, apples, grapes, pears and bananas. Today much of what makes Salinas so unique has come about through waves of immigration: From Mexican families that arrived during mission times until recent waves include Vietnamese refugees and Latinos from Central America who found work here during the late 20th century when jobs began to trickle into Southern California. Today's economy is based largely on tourism which brings together people from all over the world for enjoy local attractions like wineries or waterfall hikes; but Salinas also remains an important center for government services including education (throughUSD) and health care ( COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES).
