The Coast Guard has been providing a service to the San Anselmo community since 1892. With a Commitment to Excellence, the Coast Guard continues its tradition of excellence by being professional, responsive, and customer-focused. The Service offers both operational and support services including law enforcement, search and rescue, oceanographic research, coastal guard training and education programs. The Coast Guard has been in San Anselmo since 1887. In 1919, the Coast Guard Station was moved to the current location on First Street and Third Avenue. In 1951, the station became the Headquarters for theSan Francisco Bay Area District Command. In 1969, Headquarters was moved again to Pacific Heights and renamed Headquarters Annex. In 1978, Headquarters Annex became a Marine Corps barracks and remained so until 1984 when it was converted into an entity dedicated solely to Coast Guard services. Since then, San Anselmo’s Coast Guard Station has seen several expansions and renovations - each time resulting in an increase in its capabilities and capability of providing support to local residents and businesses.
San Anselmo is a city in San Mateo County, California. The population was 66,171 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern coast of San Francisco Bay and has a Mediterranean climate. The name "Anselmo" comes from an early European settler, Alonso de Anzalone, who named it after Cardinal Anselm of Canterbury. In 1853, part of what is now downtown San Anselmo was incorporated as a town under the name Pleasant Hill. It changed its name to San Anselmo in 1868 when it became one of the cities annexed by Oakland. At that time it had a population of just over 6 hundred people and consisted mostly of farmers and fishermen. However, by 1920s San Anselmos manufacturing base had grown sufficiently to become first among American cities in terms of job growth (the others being Detroit and Philadelphia). In 1949, following years of riots inOakland over race relations issues (among other things), Mayor George Cassidy called for annexation of portions of neighboring Hayward which would form new Oakland as well as creation of a police precinct on Telegraph Avenue eastward from Market Street - all within the boundaries then existing for San Anselmooncity limits - creating what is now known as East Oakland (formerly West Oakland). This initiative led to increased business activity around the newly annexed neighborhoods while still preserving some traditional aspects associated with those areas such as small-town living and independent farmssteads.. The city's current boundaries were drawn during World War II when most parts east or south of Telegraph Avenue were included within bombing raids on Japanese-occupied North America; these areas are now known collectively as South Hayward/East Oakland. Prior to this time much area including downtown consisted only of agricultural land leased from landowners alongshoreline for grazing purposes only; thereafter development has taken place primarily along El Camino Real corridor linking downtown with nearby communities inland via arterial streets

The city of San Anselmo, California was founded in 1849 by the Spanish. The name is derived from the word "san," meaning "peaceful," and "anselm" which means "a bishop." The city was first known as Alameda de la Habana, and it was renamed San Anselmo in 1851 after St. Augustine, the Archbishop of Canterbury. In 1868, the City Council voted to change the name to San Rafael due to its proximity to Redwood National Park. The population of San Anselmo reached 100,000 by 1907. After World War II, many residents moved out of the city because of its high prices for housing and its restrictive zoning laws. However, a small number of residents stayed in San Anselmos historic district until the late 1990s when they were finally kicked out by city officials over concerns about their historic significance and protection. Today, most people live in either nearby Rohnert Park or Daly City. San Rafael began as an agricultural village located on Rancho Rinconada land east of what is now downtown San Francisco. A mission called Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes conducted services here from 1795-1800 under Father Junípero Serra. He also built a chapel here that still stands today (1796). Another early settler named José Castro acquired part of Rancho Rinconada in 1798 and erected a house there in 1800 which is still standing today (pictured below). By 1821 there were ten families living at Rancho Rinconada with two stores and one school open for students; twelve years later there were thirty families with four stores and six schools open for students (Fowler 1978: 11). In 1848 Mexican immigrants arrived to claim ranchos adjacent to where present day San Rafael would be established three years later (Grimshaw 1959: 9-10). In 1850 Simeon Wirth founded an adobe brick company at 6th & Mission Streets as Wirth & Company LLC; this company became Ayer Brown Company Incorporated on November 8th1851 (). This adobe brick business prospered until 1865 when fire destroyed part of their factory building; however Wirth rebuilt his business within weeks () A group including José Castro purchased some additional land east of Mission Street between Second and Third streets around 1830 (). From this location they commenced construction on what would become known as El Cerrito Barracks (); this military installation served as both a detention center during times of war with Mexico ()and also offered education opportunities to local children (). Most importantly though El Cerrito Barracks housed artillery batteries used against Native Americans ()and provided cover for cavalry operations during peacetime El Cerrito Barracks served not just American soldiers but civilians too who found refuge here during times Of raids or unrest (); evidence exists that even General Mariano Vallejo (), Comte de Santa Cruz(), Governor Herrera (), Lieutenant Colonel Peralta*, Drury* all lived amongst us briefly before eventually moving on () It wasn't until 1862 that Captain James Fenton discovered oil reserves near Golden Gate Fields (), although drilling had been going on since December 1861 (). On January 3rd 1863 Fenton leased 1 square mile from Nicholas Biddle regarding oil sands situated along Suisun Bayou south-west of town.; he proceeded to drill eleven wells using Artesian water but production remained low due To difficulty discovering good sand flats suitable for fracking etc., so he abandoned drilling shortly thereafter() With increasing natural gas discoveries throughout Northern California starting around 1870 (), developing oil wells became more commercialized; however finding abundant shale gas proved more difficult than anticipated so Leland Stanford Jr.'s father decided instead to lease 4 square miles adjoining his family's private redwood forest park northeast of town towards Petaluma (). As production improved hydraulic fracturing started becoming more common starting in 2002 []fracking results have shown significant increase both horizontally (−6% decrease)and vertically (−4%)in natural gas resources worldwide!
In 1853, the first post office in San Anselmo opened. The town was named after Captain George Anselm of the U.S. Navy, who died in a shipwreck while exploring San Francisco Bay. In 1875, the city annexed part of neighboring Santa Clara County to become its own municipality. In 1906, due to World War I and the San Francisco earthquake, San Anselmo lost much of its business and population as a result of social unrest and fear for war-time destruction. However, it regained some footing by becoming an important center for munitions production during World War II. The city experienced significant redevelopment following the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquakes which destroyed large parts of downtown but also created new areas such as North Park and Westwood Village within its boundaries
