In the early 1900s, San Anselmo was a small agricultural town in the Northern California coast. But by the late 1800s, it had become one of the most important coffee communities in America. The first coffee plants were established here in 1892, and over the next several decades, San Anselmians became some of the biggest and most influential coffee buyers and sellers in America. The popularity of coffee led to an increase in wealth and status for many San Anselmians. In addition to their business acumen and entrepreneurialism, these people also came up with some of the earliest methods for grinding beans and brewing coffee. They developed a system that allowed them to make high-quality cups of coffee without using expensive beans or machines. And they did this while living subsistence lives –albeit within close proximity to some of America’s most prestigious coffee houses. This history is recounted in depth in two books: One written by Don Freeman, who lived through all of this; and another written by Michael Holtzclaw, a historian at UC Davis who has spent years studying San Anselmo’s history both during its heyday as an important coffee community and today, as one of Silicon Valley’s foremost cultural destinations. Today, there are more than 100 Starbucks locations across North America –and more than 1 million customers coming into San Anselmo each day! Many people think of San Anselmo as simply “the Coffee Place” –but it is actually home to a number of world-renowned museums (including DeAnza College), dozens of restaurants including Joe's Pizza & Pasta (now Papa John's Pizza), nine golf courses (six municipal) as well as numerous galleries and parks. It's also home to many innovative businesses such as Google Fiber (which relocated its headquarters from Menlo Park toSanAnselmo back in 2013) and Twitter Incorporated (the company that created TwitPic).

The first coffee beans were grown on the Peninsula in 1795. In 1825, Antonio Gardel founded an unsuccessful business importing Arabica beans from Mexico. In 1853, Italian immigrant Giovanni Lavalle imported a small Quantity Agreement of 8,000 pounds of pure Criollo beans from Brazil and began brewing them at his home in San Anselmo. By 1865, Lavalle had converted to roasting and selling his beans direct to consumers. By 1870, the company was exporting its coffee all over the world. The Lavalle family continued running the business until it was bought by Peet's Coffee Company in 1971.
San Anselmo, California (population: 38,749) is a city in Marin County, California on the San Rafael Peninsula. It is bordered by Tiburon to the north and east, Sausalito to the south and west, and Rosson to the northwest. The city was founded by pioneers in 1875 as an agricultural community on what is now called Rancho Seco. In 1906 it became a small town with its own post office before becoming one of Marin County's largest municipalities when it amalgamated with other townships in 1959. The population of San Anselmo has grown rapidly since then, reaching 71,827 as of 2010. Climate change has been a major focus for San Anselmo residents over the past few years as climate change becomes more likely due to global warming. A recent study found that climate change could triple the number of flood events that occur in San Anselmano each year by 2100 if not addressed. San Anselmo is a small town located in Marin County, California. The population was 9,849 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The name "San Anselmo" means "sanctuary from the arrows of the Enemy." The town was founded in 1868 by Englishmen who had come to Marin County to seek refuge from Indian attacks. The first permanent settler in San Anselmo was Nicholas de Champlain, who arrived in 1869. He built a house on what is now Olive Way and named it Champlain House after his home country. In 1870, John Sutter founded Sutter's Mill here and named it after himself. By 1872, there were 64 people living in San Anselmo. In 1876, Spain ceded control of Northern California to United States because of American annexation of Mexico's southern Triple Alliance territory (Alaska, Arizona, and Nevada). As a result of this event, many Spanish-speaking Californians left their homes for fear they would be deported if they remained in California. Among these new arrivals were several Portuguese Catholics who had immigrated to California as part of the wave of Portuguese immigrants that started arriving in large numbers during the late 1850s and early 1860s seeking a better life under Ulysses S. Grant’s Administration. In 1879 Alfred Payson Wright arrived with his family from New York City and set up shop on land that later became known as Wright Park adjacent to DeAnza Springs Creek east of downtown San Anselmano proper (now filled by parts ofMCFARLAND PARK). That year also saw the opening of San Anselmo’s first post office—which served residents until 1907 when an extension building was erected on present day First Street near Airport Boulevard/Route 1 & Interstate Highway 10). Bertram Goodhue purchased 16 acres northeast of downtown for $10 per acre in 1880; this became Goodhue Field within six years due to its excellent location between two major thoroughfares: US 101 & State Route 24 which led into Angel Island Ferry Terminal just north then across Golden Gate Bridge onto Oakland Bayou opposite Houston Street & past some now popular tourist attractions including Donner Summit Regional Park near Otis Air Force Base east side freeway off I-580 exit 12) . From here good hunting grounds could be found for white tailed deer, black bears and other big game species which would soon become one of America’s most important zoological resources accordingly park Rangers have been posted throughout much years around our property specifically looking out for these animals especially during high season months
In 1821, San Anselmo was founded as a small town on the ocean by Captain John F. Sloat and his family. The first post office in San Anselmo was established in 1827. By 1870, San Anselmo had a population of over 1,000 people and was known for its seafood and wine industries. In 1906, the city built a seawall to protect against shipwrecks and became an important seaport for the region. In 1916, San Anselmo became part of the City of Berkeley and in 1978 it merged with neighboring Oakland to form the current city of Oakland.
