San Anselmo is a city in Marin County, California, United States. The population was 97,453 at the 2010 census. It is located on the San Pablo Bay waterfront and is part of the San Francisco–Oakland–Hayward Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now San Anselmo were Spanish missionaries in 1769. The area became part of Mexico after independence from Spain was granted in 1821.
