The National Guard in California is a history that dating back to 1853. The first units were organized in 1850 as the State Militia and were used for militia duty only. In 1853, the National Guard was created as a separate branch of the military and it has been continuously in existence since then. When World War II began, California was one of six states that did not participate in the war because they had no military forces. However, on October 15, 1942, Governor Earl Warren signed into law an act that created the California National Guard with state-owned equipment and personnel. At this time there were 970 soldiers and women who served in the California National Guard. For many years after World War II ended there was minimal activity by the Californian National Guard; however, this changed with Ronald Reagan’s appointment as Governor of California on January 1, 1989. After his inauguration Reagan appointed Lieutenant Colonel Rick Dempsey to chair an advisory board which designed a program for expanding national guard presence across multiple sectors including crime control and homeland security. On February 14th 1992 President George H W Bush signed into law Publius XIII – otherwise known as The New Defense Authorization Act – which increased funding for national guard programs across all five branches of government. This legislation also called for establishment of a permanent command center within Headquarters United States Army Command (USARCOM) at Fort Irwin outside Of Angeles County so that commanders could monitor all aspects of national guard operations statewide while commander headquarters oversaw unit deployments statewide where necessary or desired depending on current conditions or threat level situation/situation). On July 9th 1994 USSOCOM announced plans to relocate from Camp Pendleton to San Bernardino County after being housed at MCAS Santa Barbara since its creation during World War II until its relocation in 1960 located at Point Mugu Naval Air Station about 25 miles north of San Diego within commuting distance of both cities making it easier for commanders to provide timely response when needed or desired depending on current conditions or threat situation/situation). With these changes came new opportunities for members of the public to become involved in their locales through events such as parades and field exercises that are now part of what makes up our annual Christmas Season ritual known as "Christmas with The Guards" every year around December 15th!

The city of San Bernardino, California is located in Riverside County on the banks of theSan Gabriel River. The population was 60,883 at the 2010 census. The city is named for General José Joaquín de Herrera y la Torre, who served as President of Mexico from 1827 to 1830 and 1846 to 1848. The first European settlers arrived in what is now San Bernardino County in 1771. They were Spanish traders and their families who built a small fort on the east bank of the river near present-day San Bernardino. In 1821, Mexican nationals under General Antonio López de Santa Anna fought a battle against American forces near San Bernardino and lost. In 1824, an act was passed by Congress creating Riverside County out of lands north of Los Angeles that had been granted to Juan Bautista Alta California by Mexican president Agustín Manuel Carranza. On October 9,1825, San Bernardino was incorporated as a town within Riverside County. The following year, James Hahn founded a trading post here called Hahn's Fort on land grant from Carranza that he developed into Rancho Verde de los Indios (later Rancho Cucamonga). Hahn's Fort served as an important transportation stop for goods moving up and down the river between Los Angeles and Orange counties before it became abandoned in 1860. A small community began growing around Hahn's Fort: Arroyo Seco (now Redlands) sprang up nearby because there was no water available farther upstream than they could bring it through hydraulic fracturing techniques used then to extract oil and gas from shale formations deep below ground. A new town was planned but never laid out when it came time to build roads or bridges due to funding shortages during Reconstruction Era America after World War II; this left Arroyo Seco with little connection other than via wagon road across open desert until development interests revived efforts to connect it with other communities during the late 1990s while looking for sites along Interstate 15 outside of Downtown Pasadena which would be adjacent to major downtown arterialization projects such as La Crescenta Boulevard/Rancho Verde Extension project now complete connecting El Monte Avenue eastward into downtown LA annexed from Pasadena
The San Bernardino Valley was part of the native Pueblo people who lived in and around what is now Riverside County. The first Europeans to arrive were Spanish missionaries, who founded Mission San Gabriel Arcángel in 1769. In 1821, the United States acquired Rancho Bernardino from Spain for $6,000. The mission continued to operate until 1827 when it was merged with Mission San Gabriel to form the newly created Mexican missions system. Santa Ana became a town in 1857 and then a city in 1912.
