The San Bruno Army National Guard once had a rich history. The unit was formed on December 12, 1894 as the 1st Battalion, California Infantry at Fort Point. It was predecessor to the present day San Bruno Army National Guard.On January 9, 1907, the battalion became part of the newly created 4th Brigade in the 10th Infantry Division under General John Pershing. On October 15, 1916, it became part of the 8th Infantry Division and served in World War I before being disbanded on November 30, 1918. In World War II, the battalion was re-formed in 1941 as part of 2nd Brigade Combat Team (later 3rd Brigade) within 1st Cavalry Division and served in both World Wars II and Vietnam before being disbanded again on May 6, 1973. On July 1, 2008 it was reactivated by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as an infantry brigade within 101st Airborne Division and is currently assigned to Task Force Alpha located at Camp Pendleton Naval Station In Barstow California serving Joint Base Irwin-Lompoc In La Jolla California After World War II there were numerous changes with troop deployments across all theaters during which time many small businesses closed their doors because they could no longer afford to keep up with military spending patterns that often increased tenfold over peacetime numbers. San Bruno is a town in Marin County, California, United States. The population was 37,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The first Europeans to sight and explore this area were the Spanish conquistadors in 1769, who named it "San Bruno" after a small mountain near present-day San Bruno Mountain. A mission called Mission San Francisco de Asís was built on what is now Geary Boulevard in 1821 and became one of the most important missions of California. In 1825, part of Rancho Rinconada was given to Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo for his wife's family; he renamed it Vallejo Missions Presidio which included San Bruno. In 1876, large parts of western Marin County were annexed to Alameda County including much of San Bruno and its namesake valley. In 1906, following World War I and the Stock Market Crash of 1907, San Francisco Mayor George Hearst went on strike with members of his City Council over pay hikes for municipal employees (the Fair Housing Act had just been passed). After eight days' street demonstrations that ended with only minor incidents (such as broken windows), Hearst agreed to give workers raises but keep their hours the same (a gesture that later became known as "Hearst's Hike"). This led to increased tensions between city officials and local farmers who felt they were being taken advantage of by state government bureaucrats; these disputes would continue until 1933 when Governor Earl Warren signed into law a bill creating an elected board rather than having municipally appointed officials make decisions about housing policy within city limits
