When people think of San Bruno, they typically think of the Silicon Valley startup scene. But this small town in Northern California has a rich coffee history stretching back to the 1800s. The first coffeehouses in San Bruno were founded by two Italian immigrants, Angelo and Benedetta Cappuccini, in 1847. The couple opened a shop on Market Street called Cappuccini's Coffee House. From here, they started selling espresso and other coffee drinks to local residents. In 1865, another Italian immigrant named Luigi Castelli opened his own coffeehouse on Fourth Street. Castelli's Coffee House was known for its high quality beans and delicious desserts. In 1937, Luigi Castelli's son-in-law Giovanni bought the business and renamed it Giovanni's CoffeeHouse. Giovanni's CoffeeHouse continued to serve excellent coffee until it closed in 1984. However, the legacy of Giovanni's CoffeeHouse is still remembered today. The business was eventually auctioned off and became part of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Collection in 1989. Today, you can find some of Angelo Cappuccini’s originalristocopee memorabilia at the museum as well as casts of severalAngelo Cappuccini machines used during his early years as a coffeeHOUSE operator (1847-1865).

San Bruno is a city in San Mateo County, California, United States. The population was 996 at the 2010 census. It is located in the East Bay region of San Francisco Peninsula. The first European tosight San Bruno was Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portolà on November 7, 1769 while exploring Monterey Peninsula. On July 4, 1821, parts of Alameda and Marin counties were annexed by San Francisco. In 1853 oil prospectors discovered petroleum reserves at San Bruno Mountain and other sites within commuting distance to the city. The discovery led to increased development around the mountain with businesses starting up as soon as water supplies became available from underground reservoirs. In 1865 an Overland Telegraph Line extension from Sacramento through Sonoma County arrived in town - this helped stimulate further development and growth around the town center which became known as "the Center of Silicon Valley." During World War II, many workers came into town for military production and housing shortages occurred due to rationing of natural gas resources. Today much of what developed during those years remains including several large companies such as Intel and Hewlett-Packard whose campuses dot much of downtown area today. With steady job growth over the past few decades there has been more people living in or near downtown than ever before – making it one of the most dense cities in North America! Downtown redevelopment has included new hotels/resorts (such as Ballpark Village), galleries (including One City Gallery), restaurants (including Chinese Take-Out ($) and Nobu) and high-end shopping areas like Sofitel Berkeley Square and Regency Plaza just east of Market Street which have made downtown a popular tourist destination for locals and visitors alike.

The city's nickname, "The City That Time Forgot", comes from its history as a sleepy agricultural town that experienced little change until the arrival of the Bay Area Rapid Transit system in 1976. The first Europeans to visit what is now San Bruno were Spanish missionaries who established a mission there in 1795. In 1821, Alameda County was formed from parts of Contra Costa and Marin Counties and San Bruno became part of that new county. The town was platted on April 15, 1847 by John Tilton.[3] The first post office opened at San Bruno on December 5, 1851, under the name "Daly".[4][5] The original plat for San Bruno included land north of present-day Market Street (then called First Street), where many early businesses were located including a millinery shop owned by Dolph Lundgren which still stands today on First Street nearisman Place after moving to another location before its closure in 1926. In 1886, work began on SAN BRuno Bay Bridge over I-880 just south of present day Eureka Boulevard; when completed two years later it allowed free passage across Santa Clara River between Oakland and Berkeley without having to take ferries or boats. After more than four decades of construction materials arrived only sporadically through regular convoys organized by port officials with aerial photography provided every six weeks or so - often too late for hand delivery - Mayor Rossman named sculptor Stanislaus Cohen Executive Director National Sculpture Project Office (later renamed sculpture department) on February 1st 1984,[6][7] charged with creating a permanent definitive statement about community identity & aspirations within our expanding cultural landscape while initiating vision & planning program steering committee chaired by then Deputy Mayor Don Bellotti
