In 1911, Harry Smith opened his own roastery in nearby Menlo Park and began selling fresh roasted Kopi Luwak coffees. By 1925, several other roasters had joined Smith's enterprise including Harry Howell (now know as Harry & Sons), Donnybrook Coffee Company, and Burton-Reeves Coffee Company. In 1941, Arturo Baca opened his first café in San Francisco with fresh roasted Kopi Luwak beans from Harry & Sons. It wasn't until after World War II that wholeheartedly developed roasting methods led to better flavor reproduction for all types of coffees - not just Kopi Luwak - thus resulting in different origins being used at each barista’s shop throughout the years (Arabica vs Robusta). Today’s global industry is based on good science and technology which allows for more nuanced flavors while keeping prices affordable for consumers everywhere; this is also why every day we hear about new “flagship” brands opening up around the world – like Starbucks’ Project Java or even Peet’s newest addition: Kona Coffee!
