At that time, the area only had a few scattered farms and small businesses. The first café in town was called the Grapes of Wrath Coffee House and served ground-up beans from local farmers. The growth ofSan Bruno's coffee industry started to take off around 1912 when entrepreneur John Fenton opened his own roastery and cafe in what is now known as Fenton Square. In 1915, Mr. Fenton donated an acre of land next to his cafe to establish the San Bruno Coffee Roasters Association (SBRA). This association helped promote and certify quality beans from local farmers, helping to increase production and create a more uniform product across different shops within the city limits. In 1935, Donny & Marie D’Angelo opened their first Maga Café location in North Park Plaza adjacent to City Hall. From then on, Maga Cafés became a popular tourist spot for locals and visitors alike looking for fine java from home-cooked meals all day long! The popularity of Maga Coffee continues even today with dozens of locations throughout the Bay Area! In 1951, Gordon Biersch Brewing Company purchased San Bruno Coffee Roasters Association and began producing its namesake beer under license from SBRA member Rincon Brewing Company (now part of craft brewers Anheuser-Busch InBev). Since then,Gordon Biersch has become one of America’s most iconic brewing companies with over 100 breweries worldwide serving their flagship brands such as Budweiser®, Miller®, Pabst Blue Ribbon®, Coors Light® etc., making them one of the largest brewers in North America! As San Bruno experienced rapid growth during World War II due to wartime demand for munitions materials production (coffee being a key crop), many new cafes were established in nearby neighborhoods like Glenview and Norwood during this time period including: The Sloppy Joes which operated out Of Business until 1957; Joe’s Garage which reopened after being closed down bythe war; Cafe Berlin which became a popular nightspot frequented by servicemen; Warrenton Road Cafeteria which hosted military functions while also serving food items like hot dogs; Stout’s BBQ restaurantwhich became well-known for its unique burger menu featuring charcuterie made from fresh fish caught on site; Red Roof Inn - formerly Pacific Gas & Electric's gas station on Hercules Boulevard - where troops could refuel between battles or stay overnight before continuing their journey into battle tomorrow morning at 7am;; finally Ziegfeld's Playhouse located near downtown which functioned as both a movie theater as well as providing live music nightly through 1949 when it was taken over by hotel management who renamed it "The Regal" but continued to provide live music through 1960 when it was closedtered again because too much noise was being made by customers who were using stagehands working onstage!. Today there are over 150 Maga Coffee locations throughout Bay Area including ones located right outside your door!
