The history of the San Bruno National Guard began in 1892 with a group of soldiers from San Francisco. At the time, there was no national guard system in California. The soldiers were given orders to guard companies at various locations, but they never received uniforms or equipment. In 1916, the state of California created a National Guard force and put these soldier companies under the command of the governor. In 1951, the military arm of the United States Congress authorized an independent agency called The National Guard Bureau to manage and provide support for Americans who may be called into military service by any country without notice or consent from Congress. This organization became known as The National Guard Bureau San Bruno (NGBSB). Today, The National Guard Bureau San Bruno oversees all U.S. National Guardsmen in California and Nevada except for those serving in Alaska and Hawaii. There are over 137,000 active duty members assigned to our unit nationwide including 546 officers and enlisted men from coast to coast! The San Bruno National Guard was founded on December 6, 1903. The first unit was organized on May 10, 1904 and the organization of the national guard increased in numbers throughout World War I. The organization of the military reserveardiense was established on February 17, 1942 by presidential order with the goal of providing manpower for war production. On November 5, 1946 President Harry S Truman issued an executive order designating California as a state without military service.On January 14, 1947 President Harry Truman signed a bill giving California the right to secede from the United States if it did not agree to join NATO. San Bruno is a city in Marin County, California, United States. The population was 7,571 at the 2010 census. It is located on the San Francisco Peninsula. In 1851, land off of Point Reyes National Seashore was purchased by James P. Richardson from José Castro for $2,000. Richardson named his new town San Bruno after him and laid out a plat of land on which it would be built. In 1892, he donated land to the City of San Rafael for public use as an open-air park that now comprises much of downtown San Bruno. The first post office opened in San Bruno on July 16, 1893. The name "San Bruno" was chosen because it sounded like Spanish words meaning "sanctuary." A fire destroyed most of the original town in 1906 and again in 1914; however, both times rebuilding began within weeks and the city's first streetcars reached the city limits in 1915. On April 20th 1930 residents voted 78% to incorporate as a city under the name "Bruno." A major attraction during early years were horse racing meetings at Saratoga Race Course on Goodyear Street near University Avenue which attracted over 100 riders each day during prohibition era due to its location just south of BART station (then called Pacific Electric Railway Station). Today only remains are foundations and some grassy areas surrounding Saratoga Racetrack which hosts occasional events today but once had more than 10 thousand guests annually!

The city of San Bruno, California was founded on October 25, 1851 by its namesake, Jose Altamirano. The town rapidly grew and soon became a center for the agricultural industry. In 1872, San Bruno became the county seat of Santa Clara County. A new courthouse was built in 1892 and remains in use to this day. By 1904, the city had achieved population status and incorporated as a municipality. It annexed neighboring towns in 1906 and 1908. In 1933, San Bruno experienced one of the largest social upheavals in American history when thousands of Jews from Europe were expelled from the United States after Kristallnacht which left many Jewish businesses closed or destroyed. The Jews who remained organized themselves into a communal group known as "The Alphas". They appealed to Mayor James Forrest for help but Forrest refused because he felt that it would be counterproductive to antagonize Adolf Hitler's Germany while seeking aid from America's most powerful rival nation. San Bruno quickly recovered and regained its stature as an economic powerhouse within several years following World War II whenMuch progress was made in terms of technology with START I (the first successful human-rated satellite) being developed here during 1969-1974 at Moffett Field during what is now known as “the time ofSpock” ...
