The San Bruno Naval Shipyard was founded in 1887 by Commodore George Dewey and his crew. The shipyards were a mainstay of the American Navy until World War II. The yards produced over 1,500 ships for the Navy, including over 100 submarines. Several warships that served in World War II are still preserved at the shipyards today- among them is the USS Constitution (1895). Navy gift history began with Commodore Dewey’s creation of the Naval Shipyard and its first class of naval vessels- boats called “Dewey Navies”. These boats were designed to be seaworthy and efficient while serving as warships. At first, these navies used wooden boats which were not very comfortable or clean after long deployments being afloat around Asia and Europe aboard various ports for years on end. To solve this problem, Commodore Dewey decided to build a wooden navy boat that would be both aesthetically pleasing as well as seaworthy- he named it the Constitution Bowhead Lighthouse Boat. This boat became one of America’s most famous warships during World War I thanks to its efficiency and seaworthiness despite its small size compared to other warships afloat at that time such as HMS Dreadnought (1914). The original navy gift history continued with Admiral John Cranch’s construction of America’s first destroyer duringWorld War II- even though it was much larger than any destroyer ever built before or since! The destroyer USS DeWitt Clinton (DDG 63) is considered one ofAmerica’s most successful ships due to her prowess both offensively as well Defensively- she was able to destroy more enemy vessels then any other warship fielded by America during WWII! In addition, several other Destroyer destroyers also played important roles in support duties during WWII such as USS Gamble (DE 42), USS Weehawken (DE 44), USS Pascagoula (APA 35) and USS Simsbury (AGI 38)! It should be noted that many destroyers actually served multiple tours throughout WWII; DeWitt Clinton only made 4 patrols during WWII! As of 2019, there are still active military service members stationed at El Monte NAS as well as multiple Navy Yard buildings located within or adjacent to downtownSan Bruno (including one now leased to UC Berkeley).
San Bruno is a city in San Mateo County, California, United States. The population was 23,651 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Peninsula of Silicon Valley. The first Europeans to visit what is now San Bruno were Spanish missionaries in 1768–69. TheMission San Francisco de Asís, founded by Father Junípero Serra and completed in 1776 near where San Bruno sits today, served as the nucleus of present-day downtown San Bruno and much of southern Palo Alto before both cities were merged into one in 1881. Downtown business owners and residents lobbied for years for annexation into neighboring Palo Alto, but no vote was ever taken because Palo Alto's mayor opposed the move (the merger would have increased its population from 12,000 to 50,000). In 1906 ownership of all land east of Third Street changed hands from Santa Clara County to San Francisco Municipal Commission due to an election campaign promise by Mayor George Earle about providing more services within commuting distance for his growing city. In 1923 Los Angeles annexed much of southern Palo Alto while still refusing to annex downtownSan Bruno; this led to a stinkish fistfight between LAPO employees and SBPD officers that became known as "The Battle at South Park". Today most businesses located south of Third Street are actually inside or adjacent to DowntownSan Bruno proper. On July 15th 1914 two planes crashed into Forbes Field just south of Eureka Street killing all five people on board: four American pilots and one Swedish pilot flying an Albatross airliner that had stopped over night enroute from Stockholmto North America with intentions only of stopping at Eureka Bay; two months later another plane crashing into Forbes Field killed three Americans also - this time it was aviator Wiley Post who discovered what happened when he found pieces remaining from both crashes days after they occurred. posthumously awarded a Congressional Medal Of Honor On November 10th 1938 nine-year old Reynaldo Bignone wrote "To All The Boys I've Lost In War" on a anti-aircraft artillery piece which stood near his home during World War II until 1945 when it was destroyed during Allied bombing raids; partly because part daycare children playing nearby heard the bombers passing overhead and ran outside screaming before being prevented by their parents From doing so again until 1949 when it finally fell apart (it had been damaged beyond repair during World War II); posthumously awarded the US Military Order Of citation Aerial view looking northeast towards Highway 101 bridge across town line with Mountain View(near Stanford University)in background

In 1879, a group of businessmen in San Bruno founded the city's first hospital, the San Francisco General Hospital. In 1909, the California Legislature approved a resolution to make San Bruno an incorporated city. The new city government was created and began operations on November 1, 1909. On May 15, 1912, during World War I, San Bruno was the site of one of the most destructive air raids in United States history when over 100 bombers bombed downtownSan Bruno with stunning results. The event is still remembered as one of San Bruno's most significant moments in its history. The influx of people from Northern California during and after World War II caused many problems for San Bruno which were ultimately solved through planning and zoning regulations that were put into place in the early 21st century. In 1951, construction began on what would become known as "The City Hall Tower" which would later be renamed "San Brunotall". The tower became home to both the City Manager’s Office and the Police Department before it was moved to its current location within Park Plaza apartment complex in 1998 following a $30 million renovation project that included seismic retrofitting and updating of all public functions inside and outside of City Hall Tower including street signage, lighting and firefighting systems.
The city of San Bruno was founded in 1847 by Juan C. Castilla and began to be developed in the 1830s. The town had a population of about 100 people when it was incorporated on April 12, 1847. After the California Gold Rush ended in 1848, the population decreased as many men left for goldfields in Nevada and Arizona. However, due to the presence of a military post at San Francisco Bay, San Bruno continued to grow rapidly with its new settlers becoming farmers and traders. On January 28, 1912, San Bruno became one of 36 municipalities statewide that joined the state of California as part of Proposition 8 (the marriage amendment). As part of this change, residents were given the right to vote for members of their municipal governments without having to serve out an entire term or election cycle. In 1970–71, voters passed a measure changing the name from San Bruno Municipal Union to City Councilmember District 1 which then became effective on November 3, 1971. At that time there were six councilmembers District 1; three incumbents and three newcomers who had been appointed by Mayor Dianne Feinstein after her victory over incumbent Alderman Angelo Ramos in a runoff election held on October 14th. The first female councilmember was Karleen Smith who served from 1992 until 1995 when she resigned due to health concerns following her husband’s death
