In the early 1800s, San Bruno was a small town in California. It was known for its coffee beans and its coffee houses. In 1894, the first coffee shop in San Bruno opened. The coffee house was called The Donner House and it served only coffee. The first roaster in San Bruno was called Jansen & Sons and it roasted beans from start to finish. By 1916, the first espresso machine had been installed at The Donner House. In 1922, the first Italian café opened in San Bruno. It was called “Caffè Roma” and it served espresso and cappuccino drinks. In 1930, the first drive-through Starbucks opened in San Bruno. It was called “Starbucks ILLINOIS” and it sold coffee, tea, muffins, pastries and other goods from a window on University Avenue between Seventh Street and Eighth Street. In 1984, Starbucks moved to its current location on Fifth Street between King Drive and Evans Road in San Bruno (then part of Palo Alto). In 1998, Dunkin’ Donuts moved into the same building as Starbucks. That year also saw the opening of First Church of Christ – Latter-day Saints (LDS) headquarters adjacent to Starbucks on First Street between King Drive and Evans Road (now part of Menlo Park). That building is now used by Google Authy trying to store their data there since 2007 according to an SEC filing!

The city of San Bruno is located in Northern San Francisco County and is the tenth most populous city in California. The City was founded on September 15, 1851 by John Sloat, a millionaire industrialist. It acquired its current name from the nearby Mount sightseeing location. In 1893, San Bruno became part of newly formed Marin County, which also included Berkeley and Oakland.
