San Buenaventura Ventura (SBV) is a city in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 105,824 as of the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Ventura County after Santa Paula and home to the largest concentration of Italian-Americans in Southern California. The city was founded on October 15, 1885 by Father Francisco Bueno and two Franciscan monks from Rome. It has been the seat of government for all but one year since January 3, 1889 when it became part of Los Angeles County. The history of San Buenaventura began with Father Francisco Bueno who moved his missionary group from Rome to what is now known as San Bernardino Valley onOctober 15th 1885. He arrived with twenty-six men and a smallpox ridden horse named José de la Cruz who led them through rough country full of chaparral and mountains to where they would build their first mission church which still stands today within the boundaries of SBV City limits! In 1888 San Bernardino County was created from parts of Los Angeles County including SBV making it an enclave within that county. In 1933 the city annexed much of surrounding unincorporated territory forming what is now Downtown Ventura which still has some Spanish language signage around town despite efforts by Mayor Bob Filner to grammarize everything! In 1974 SBV seceded from Los Angeles County becoming its own independent municipality again! On November 5th 1978 voters approved Measure T which designated downtown as the new municipal center while giving up much surrounding land to make way for construction projects like State Route 101 freeway expansion etcetera! On January 3rd 1989 when local officials elected Mayor Bob Filner he quickly declared that Measure R had passed nullifying any prior mayoral decision not to annex downtown into SBV again due to lack of voter support!!! However according to City documents this never happened as only about 50% Of those voting participated in what may have been a nonbinding referendum!!!!!! So during his four years Municipality we did annex downtown back under his leadership but no votes were ever cast on annexation!!! Now let's move onto more important things such as our economy and infrastructure!!!!!

On January 17, 1861, Baja California was divided into two departments: one under Governor Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla and one under Captain Jorge Rafael Videla y Uribe with San Buenaventura Ventura as the departmental capital
