The San Buenaventura Ventura National Guard Museum is a museum dedicated to the history of the San Buenaventura Ventura County Sheriff's Department and the national guard. The museum opened in 1984 and consists of a collection of over 20,000 items including uniforms, equipment, documents, and photos. The museum also has an exhibit on the history of law enforcement in Ventura County. The national guard was first organized in 1907 as a result of World War I. At that time, there were only 8 companies in Ventura County. In 1924, Congress authorized creation of battalions statewide for state defense purposes. Corporal punishment was abolished as part of this act. The first battalion was stationed at Camp Simi Valley in Camarillo. In 1928, voters passed an act authorizing the formation of two more battalions- one located in Oxnard and one located in Reseda- both under command of sheriff's deputies. On February 3rd, 1929, sheriff's deputies from neighboring counties joined forces with those from Ventura to form a single battalion under command of sheriff's deputies from all three counties. In 1942-1943, during World War II, the county formed two companies (C/1st Marines Regiment) and 2 platoons (A/2nd Marines Regiment) which served overseas with distinction earning awards such as Unit Citation or Honor Crosses

The name "San Buenaventura" means "happyville." The City of Ventura is a feeder city to the Los Angeles metropolitan area and has a population of over 200,000 people. The city ranks fourth out of 100 cities in the nation for job growth between 2013 and 2017 according to the National Employment Project. In November 2017, it was announced that San Buenaventura had been selected as one of 10 finalists for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development's award for Best Places To Live Amongst All Cities. The history of San Buenaventura begins with Captain José de la Vega who built a small fort at present-day Point Mugu on December 7th 1874 after being ordered by Governor Manuel Micheltorena to quell an uprising against Mexican rule within his territory. A group of Spanish settlers were also sent out from Santa Barbara and Carpinteria Counties to help La Vega build Fort Nuñez de Ventanilla which served as a military post during Mexican rule until1881 when it was destroyed by American forces during the Chihuahua War (1846-48). In 1876, La Vega granted Rancho del Arroyo Seco which included land east of town and today's corner streets including Camino Real and Cabrillo Boulevard downtown. On November 20th 1888, officials from both sides signed an agreement creating Villa Park which became part of San Buenaventura when it incorporated as a town on January 1st 1889 under Mayor Antonio Sosa y Crespo. There were also various other groups such as the National Guard of New York City and Boston that served intermittently throughout the 19th century. However, it wasn’t until 1912 that a national guard unit became operational within the United States military system. This unit was known as The Pennsylvania Guards and its purpose was to provide support for military campaigns within Pennsylvania. It functioned until 1924 when it was decommissioned due to financial problems. During World War II there were also various national guard units activated but these only lasted for a few months before being deactivated or disbanded again due to changing military priorities or event related reasons. As recently as 2003 there still remained an active duty component within the United States armed forces known as The National Guard Bureau which provides support for all military activities within U.S territory without having any specific command structure or headquarters like regular army units do. In total, there have been over 500 different organizations created specifically or generally associated with the role of national guard in some way or another since 1800s!

In 1823, Don José de San Buenaventura y Cámpora founded the town of San Buenaventura Ventura in present-day Ventura County, California. The name was chosen to honor Father Miguel de San Benito, who had been a missionary to the area in 1776. Of Spanish descent and a native of Cádiz, Father Miguel had arrived in California with other missionaries in 1781 and soon began preaching the gospel to the indigenous people. He is credited with helping start the movement for Mexican independence from Spain. Don José's brother Antonio also foundedSan Buenaventura Ventura along with his wife María del Carmen Carrasco on November 5, 1824. The two towns were located about five miles (8 km) apart at what is now mile marker 27 on Highway 101. In 1828, Don José donated land for a school and church inSan Buenaventura Ventura. A school was started on December 15, 1830 by brothers Lorenzo y Francisco Pacheco and Fernando Pacheco under the guidance of Father Miguel de San Benito. On October 21, 1834, Governor Manuel Micheltorena granted an appropriation of $5,000 for the construction of a courthouse and jail near present-day Moorpark Avenue and First Street in downtownSan Buenaventura Ventura. This facility became known as "Miguel's Courthouse." The growth of San Buenaventura Ventura continued throughout 19th century as various entrepreneurs connected with don Jose's businesses developed new industries such as cattle farming, lumbering, gold mining and shipping. One business leader who helped spur this growth was Antonio Canseco y Zúñiga who purchased an assetshe called Rancho Santa Clara de Atascosa which employed over 1,500 workers at its peak during 1904-1905 season when it produced over $100 million worth of crops alone! Also during this time period many physicians relocated toSAN BUENAVENTURA VENTURA from nearby cities such as Los Angeles or Sacramento due to sanitary conditions that were improving rapidly thanks to improvements made by Captain John Sutter during his long tenure as governor (1849-1855). In 1902 Drs Virgilio Martinez y González opened their own hospital within walking distance of downtownSAN BUENAVENTURA VENTURA serving patients from all over Southern California including those living east of la Cañada Flintridge! With increased development came increased population density which caused problems such as water shortages which led to numerous fires that burned through much of downtownSAN BUENAVENTURA VENTURA between 1907-1907 producing extensive damage including loss of life among both local residents and visitors alike; one fire that destroyed parts of city blocks entire! Additionally there were several waves OF Irish immigrants who settled HERE beginning around 1840s until they left after World War II; some setting up large families here while others eventually assimilated into American culture leaving few residual traces behind! With rapid advances in technology starting around 1945 SAN BUENAVENTURANVENTURA experienced rapid economic growth thanks largely toowntown facilities being renovated/developed into luxurious hotel/casinoswhich continues today!!
