Air Force Deployed Gift History in San Carlos, California began with the enlistment of World War I veteran William F. Mead in 1918. Mead served as a sergeant in the 1st Airborne Division and was discharged from military service in 1919. After his discharge, Mead worked as an airman at the nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for three years before joining the Army National Guard as a private in 1925. He served for four years and after that joined the United States Marine Corps where he served until 1929. In 1930, Mead married Jane Hildebrandt and they moved to San Carlos where he worked as an insurance salesman before becoming an airman again in 1941. In 1945, Mead was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Forces after more than 20 years of service and returned to civilian life. He died two years later at the age of 96 after a long career in aviation services with many accomplishments including being inducted into the Military Aviation Hall of Fame in 1984. Mead's service during World War I is significant because he was one of only two Americans to serve in combat as a sergeant with distinction (the other being Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin). Additionally, Mead's military experience gave him valuable skills that were applied when he join forces with fellow Marine Artillery officer Charles Wysocki to form 2nd Bombardment Wing (BTW) at Wright-Patterson AFB on Dec 15th 1944; this unit became infamous for its destructive raids against Japanese targets during World War II After Pearl Harbor, Air Force enlisted men were required to wear their rank insignia on their uniforms even if they did not serve aboard a ship or aircraft carrier during wartime hostilities "In recognition of these distinguished achievements," Secretary Smith announced "I am awarding Mr./Mrs.(rank name), formerly members (of respective units) of The Armed Forces Reserve Officers' Training School herewith orders which will entitle them to represent The United States Naval Academy at West Point next autumn." For both husband and wife it was their third time attending West Point together; Jane had also been awarded her undergraduate degree from Mount Holyoke College prior to serving tour duty ashore with The USMC while her husband completed his technical training there

The town of San Carlos, California is located in the Santa Clara Valley near San Francisco. The population was 9,155 as of 2010. In 1849, Don José Maria Buenaventura, a Mexican landowner, donated land to the United States for the construction of a military fortification known as Fort Point on Jones Beach. The fort was named in honor of General George Washington, and it became an important military post during the Mexican-American War. After Mexico's collapse in 1848, American settlers began to arrive in San Carlos County. A group of entrepreneurs who called themselves the Morongo Band laid out a town on what is now upper Cradle Mountain Road. They built a wooden courthouse and jail and started selling goods from their store. In 1852, they opened a hotel which became one of California's most popular tourist destinations. In 1862, the first post office was established at San Carlos; it later changed its name to Palo Alto. In 1865, Capturado Peak (now Mount Tamalpais) was discovered by prospectors and formalized as part of Rancho Pastoria de las Vegas in 1868; this area also included present-day San Carlos County. By 1880, there were over 20 businesses operating inSanCarlos county; many had been founded by Anglo-Americans seeking access to taxable property within Spanish territory that had become U S territory after Mexico's fall. In 1886 James Wickersham House (now called Wickersham Mansion), designed by architect Alfred Cushman and built on 8 acres east of downtown SanCarlos became the first housing development in southern California when developers purchased 5 acres next door to Lady Bird Johnson School for African Americans from Mrs Emily Brown Moore for $2 per acre (the house itself cost $15K). Over time other Black families followed suit until all non-Hispanic whites had vacated most or all of southern California except Orange County by 1960s due to state laws mandating racially segregated housing developments statewide

San Carlos, California is a town in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. Its name is Spanish for " Santiago." The townsite of San Carlos was first settled in 1847 by American pioneers who came from Illinois. In 1850 it became part of Rancho El Cuchillo Mexican land grant to Francisco and María de la Cruz Viveros. San Carlos served as the capital of Alta California from 1858 to 1859 and again from 1865 to 1867. It was also the site of the ill-fated December 1860 attack on Fort Tejon by Confederate forces under General Antonio López de Santa Anna, which resulted in over 50 civilian deaths and $150,000 loss to the Mexican army. In 1906 San Carlos became an unincorporated community within San Bernardino County when it consolidated with other nearby communities including Big Bear City and Riverside. A post office operated at San Carlos until 1907; its last issue was on October 15th that year.

He named the valley San Carlos after General Antonio José de Santa Anna, who had won a victory over the Spanish in 1808. The mission of San Francisco de Asís was founded in 1776 by Father Junípero Serra and is now a National Monument. Mission San Fernando Rey de la Luz was founded in 1821 by Father Gaspar Fraga and is now a National Historic Site. The great Mexican cotton fields of the 1800s were located in this area.
