In 1927, John Sutter founded Sutter's Coffee Company in San Carlos with a single roast house that he had purchased from Antonio Sanchez back at the turn of the century. At first, Sutter's only sold cold drinks; however, over time they grew into one of North America's largest cafes with more than 100 stores throughout North America and around the world!

The San Carlos Coffee Company was founded in 1892 by Charles Fenton and John S. Coffey. The company became a national leader in roasting, brewing, and selling coffee. The first store opened on Market Street in San Carlos in 1896. In 1937, the company moved its headquarters from San Francisco to Palo Alto, California. In 1979, the company merged with Schulz & Bick Brewing Company to form Starbucks Corporation.
San Carlos, California is a city in Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 85,883. The city is located on San Andreas Fault and has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. The name "San Carlos" means "Saint Peter's Fortress." The first Europeans to visit what is now San Carlos were Spanish missionaries in 1769–1770. Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was founded in 1771 by Father José de la Peña y Costilla. In 1821, Mexico gained independence from Spain, and the mission became part of Mexican territory. In 1834, United States troops burned down the mission; it reopened as an American military station the next year under US Commodore James K Polk. After Mexican Independence was proclaimed in December 1839, American forces abandoned Alta California and most of Coyote Valley due to subsequent gold discoveries there at Sutter's Mill (1848) and Gold Rush (1859). In 1847–1848 Manuel Nieto built a adobe Presidio on Topaz Hill overlooking present-day downtown San Carlos after being appointed by governor Joaquín Herrera as commander-in-chief of all Californias during Mexico City's absence during its war with Peru over that country's claim to sovereignty over what are now central California and Nevada Territory (Alta California). That presidio served as headquarters for land grants given out by Governor Herrera throughout much of what is today Los Angeles County. Nieto also organized militia detachments for protection of his holdings until his death in 1850; these militias formed into battalions known as Pedro Allende Battalion from toponymic roots meaning "the living one," following their leader's promotion to brigadier general that year under General Antonio López de Santa Anna. A few years later on October 10th 1861 DonMexico José García married Matilde Fortunato Zúñiga daughter of don Francisco Javier Zúñiga who had been born February 12th 1860 in Soledad County seat Tijuana Municipality about 50 miles south east [of] Baja California Peninsula where my father Joséfina Guerrero lived until her death April 15th 1908 aged 90 years old she died at her home near Tijuana Municipality just before her 92nd birthday which made her our grandmother . In 1848, the area now known as San Carlos was part of Mexico. American settlers arrived in 1853 and founded what is now San Carlos County. In 1875, a group of businessmen organized a town charter for San Carlos, California. The charter granted residents the right to vote and establish businesses. The town quickly grew and by 1889 had a population of over 1,000 people. It was renamed San Carlos after Emperor Francisco José de San Martín, who had been ruling Mexico at the time. In 1905, the Mexican government annexed California to its country. As a result of this annexation, the city of San Carlos lost its charter and became an unincorporated community under Mexican jurisdiction. However, it continued to be governed by a board of trustees until 1912 when it was placed into full control of the Mexican government by Governor Pio Pico. After World War II ended in 1946, American citizens began arriving in increasing numbers and starting businesses inSanCarlos again as they did across much of California following the war’s end. A large number of these businesspeople were Sephardic Jews who had fled Nazi Germany during World War II. Many Jewish refugees settled in Santa Clara Valley because that is where their relatives lived before moving to America on foot or boat during the Holocaust (1914-1945). By 1968 there were more than 20 synagogues located throughout southern California and many more scattered around North America including those found in East Los Angeles (now Compton), CA; Phoenix AZ; Jersey City NJ; Buffalo NY; Minneapolis MN; Hartford CT; Providence RI; Cleveland OH; and Bayonne NJ among others
The first European settlement in San Carlos was by the Franciscans in 1769. The Mission Santa Clara de Asís was founded in 1777, and the town of San Carlos grew up around it. In 1821, California became part of the United States of America, and the mission property became part of the newly created Mexican territory. The town gradually lost its importance until it was abandoned in 1853 when the site was reclaimed for agriculture.
